TECH SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES TECH SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES

zoom_out_map

In an effort to help with technical issues that you may have at home while learning online, WLCSD has developed a STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT REQUEST FORM. To help with technical issues, this should be the first step in letting us know the issue you are experiencing with technology at home. We can then help you as quickly as we can.

This form is always located on our WLE web page under the FOR PARENTS tab.

There is a button below too!

Please enjoy this video that we created to introduce some our staff to our WLE community. We have a few more that we will add soon, but were not quite ready due to some technical issues.

MEET & BEEP

Thank you to all who were able to attend our Meet & Beep this past Thursday. It was so great to see our kids' smiling faces! What a great kickoff to the 20-21 school year!

ATTENDANCE

Despite the fact that we are starting the 20-21 school year remotely, attendance must continue to be a priority. It is extremely important for students to log in on time, be present in the remote setting, and remain engaged throughout the entirety of the school day. Please be reminded that our teachers will take AM and PM attendance as well as record tardies. If your child will be absent or late, or will need to end the remote day early due to illness or a scheduled appointment, you must call the attendance phone line and leave us a message to tell us. Every teaching and learning moment is crucial and we appreciate your partnership to ensure good attendance and participation.

We recognize that there will be a learning curve during these first few weeks and we promise to be flexible and understanding as we all become comfortable with the digital platforms of Google and Zoom.

JOINING GOOGLE CLASSROOM

We are very excited for the first day of remote learning, Monday, August 31. Your child's teacher will send instructions for how to join their Google Classroom and what link to use for the first day of school. We learned late Friday that our Skyward Message system was having technical issues which impeded several staff communications from reaching you. Although the problem has since been resolved, I have included the Google Classroom Join Codes for our K-5 and ECSE classroom teachers. If, by chance, you did not receive directions from your teacher, please follow THESE DIRECTIONS and use the class join code below to help your child join his/her class. We apologize for any inconvenience the delay in messaging may have caused.

HOW TO OBTAIN YOUR CHILD'S GOOGLE LOGIN INFORMATION

Parents can now access their child's Google login information via Skyward Family Access. Every student will need access to their Google login information for the start of school, 8/31. It can be found on the Report Cards tab as the very top report. If you are a parent of a new Kindergarten student and do not see your child's login, please check back on Skyward in 24 hours as we are continuing to process enrollments.

Daily Learning Schedule

The week of August 31st, teachers will be spending time getting to know their students and families. They are preparing team building activities and connectors. This is also a time when we will trouble-shoot technical issues and students can start to get on a good schedule that is conducive to learning.

The week of September 7th, teachers will begin to follow a much more specific learning schedule that will include FAPES, all curricular areas, and more. Of course there will be adjustments along the way. This schedule of learning will be shared with families as well.

ELEMENTARY SUPPLY LISTS

Here is a list of suggested supplies for elementary students as well as a suggested FAPES (music, art, PE, media) supply list that you may want to have available for at-home learning. These are suggested (not mandatory) lists. If you are not able to purchase these supplies, please let your classroom teacher know.

In addition, it will be helpful to have a timer that your child can use for remote learning. This could be a timer on the device they are using, a kitchen timer, the timer on the microwave, a stop watch, etc. There will be times when the teacher introduces a lesson, sends the children off to do some independent work, and asks for them to report back in X minutes. A timer will help children manage this transition more independently.

For Media- Grades 2-5 will practice keyboarding. It can be difficult to practice on a tablet or touchscreen. A Chromebook keyboard, laptop keyboard, or extra keyboard would help for practice, but is not essential.’

ALL K-12 FAMILIES MUST COMPLETE

Walled Lake Schools has streamlined the annual registration/first-day packet process for ALL K-12 families. The District will be using the Family Access/Skyward system to automate the process for updating and completing documents such as the emergency card, Food Service application, FERPA form, fee payments, Code of Conduct, and other important annual school forms that require parent approval.

Skyward Family Access is how parents access the back-to-school packet.

A Skyward Family Access parent account is required in order to complete the Online Back-to-School Packet process for all schools. (A parent account username is alphanumeric - SMITHMAD000; a student account username is the student's ID number - 1234567.) To obtain a Family Access account, email familyaccess@wlcsd.org from your email account on file with the district or call 248-956-2190 (email is best). Please include ALL of the following information in the body of your message. You will be contacted within 3 business days.

  • Guardian Name
  • Your student name(s) and name of schools they attend in Walled Lake Schools
