Superintendent's Monday Magi Message
It is a GREAT week to be a MAGI!
Happy Monday Magi Families,
The first issue of our Magi Monday Messenger had quite the reception. Thank you to all the parents who took the time to send messages and provide feedback. Your input is invaluable, and I'm truly excited to continue this dialogue with you. Last week, we celebrated National School Counseling Week, a time to recognize the invaluable contributions of our counseling staff. I'm delighted to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of two remarkable individuals, Ms. Sonia Kevnick and Mr. Calieb Ray. They play vital roles in our student support systems and collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and administration to ensure the well-being of our entire school community. Please join me in expressing our gratitude to them when you see them around our buildings.
I'd like to remind everyone that this Wednesday marks Count Day for all Michigan school districts. While it's always important for students to attend school regularly, this day holds particular significance. I kindly ask that you ensure your children are in school if they're feeling healthy. If possible, please consider rescheduling any non-urgent appointments. On the topic of enrollment, I'm proud to share that our district has experienced a 12% increase in enrollment during my time as superintendent. This growth reflects positively on our community and enables us to offer our students an even richer curriculum and enhanced programming. Welcoming new families into our community is a joy, and thanks to this growth, we can expand our services and opportunities for all students.
Wishing you, your families, and all members of our community a truly magical week ahead.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Kowalski

Magi Pride Friday @ CES
From Mrs. Reilley at Colon Elementary: "For Friday Pride Day, Mr. Baker encouraged Mrs. Johnson's class to dress with pride, and they won with 78% participation. I can tell they are hungry for Pizza in February."
In Our Schools: Sturgis Bank
Through our partnership with Sturgis Bank, students in all Colon schools can do their banking at school! Elementary students bank on Tuesday mornings, and Colon Jr/Sr High students on Thursday mornings during breakfast, before school. Last Thursday morning, we welcomed Tracy Mynhier of Sturgis Bank and kicked off Thursday morning visits. Students, please come stop by and make use of your account!
iReady's Plory To Join Our February Events
Semester 2 is well underway, but in a couple of weeks, we will be really gearing up for our February iReady testing window. A special guest is joining us in the buildings as we prepare for the diagnostic! iReady character Plory is joining us! While his outfit was being cleaned, and Plory was resting, our staff and students were trying it out! A reminder that Ms. Kevnick recorded this video JUST FOR our Colon families, and it covers what you need to know about iReady. We really ask that you take a few minutes to listen and understand what is available to you at home.

Elementary Art Hard At Work
🎨🌟 Tuesday was such an exciting day in our elementary school art class! Our amazing art teacher, Mr. Minor, and talented students from grades K, 1, and 2 transformed our hallways into vibrant canvases of creativity! ✨🏫 Let's take a moment to thank Mr. Minor and our budding artists for brightening our school environment with their wonderful creations! 👩🎨🖌️
Teacher Collaboration During Early Release
We're thrilled to share some moments captured this week featuring our continued investment in providing dedicated time for our teachers to collaborate. This means that our teachers, staff, and administrators are coming together to pool their expertise and resources to ensure the best possible learning experience for your child. But why is this investment so important? First, it's all about student success. Using a combination of information and years of experience, our teachers are creating instruction to meet every student's needs. Whether through personalized learning, small group activities, or differentiated assignments, we're ensuring everyone gets "What They Need" (AKA Win Time or Magi Focus!) And guess what? When teachers collaborate, everyone benefits – especially your child! To give you a glimpse into the magic happening during these meetings, here's a snapshot of our teams, including our incredible math team in action. They're collaborating on real-world math examples and conducting item analysis of a recent assessment to ensure that our teaching methods are as effective as possible.
