May 2026 Superintendent's Memo

Dear Hopkinton Families, Students, Faculty, and Staff,

As we head into May, it's one of the busiest stretches of the year across all of our schools, filled with events, field trips, performances, projects, and moments that really showcase the work happening every day in our classrooms.

It’s also hard not to think about our seniors, the Class of 2026, this time of year. In just a few short weeks, they’ll graduate on Friday, June 5. Before they take that final walk across the stage on the football field, they’ll participate in one of the most meaningful parts of their time in Hopkinton Public Schools—the Senior Capstone Project.

Throughout the month of May, our seniors step beyond the traditional classroom and into real-world learning. Whether through internships, independent projects, research, or community-based experiences, they are exploring their interests, building skills, and reflecting on what comes next. It’s a powerful way to close out their time with us.

I also want to extend an invitation to our entire school community to attend the Senior Capstone Presentations taking place on Wednesday, May 27th, in the athletic center at Hopkinton High School. This is a special opportunity to see firsthand the work our students have been engaged in and to celebrate their growth and accomplishments.

You can learn more about the Capstone experience here:

Go Hillers,
Mr. Bishop

There’s always something special happening at Marathon, and these moments truly capture the spirit of the school. From Belle and Ms. Dubeau (aka Waldo!) bringing the fun on Character Day, to our kindergarten students immersing themselves in their Insect Museum, it’s been a great stretch of learning and community. Students seamlessly blended life science with nonfiction reading and writing in meaningful, engaging ways. A big thank you to the HPTO for sponsoring the Pumpernickel Puppets show, it brought plenty of smiles and laughter to our kindergarteners. Moments like these are a great reminder of the energy, creativity, and strong support that define the Marathon community each and every day.

Elmwood continues to be a place where learning really comes to life. Students in Ms. Marshall's 3rd grade class recently took on the challenge of researching different types of extreme weather, writing informational brochures, and then applying that learning to design homes built to withstand those conditions. An impressive blend of research, writing, and hands-on problem solving. At the same time, the Elmwood school community came together for a PBIS assembly to celebrate their March Madness winners, recognizing positive contributions and school spirit. And the HPTO sponsored a Fun Run, which brought incredible energy and support from our families, highlighting the strong sense of community that makes Elmwood such a special place.

Hopkins School has had an exciting and energetic few weeks! Our recent Fun Run was a huge success, bringing together students, staff, and families for a day full of enthusiasm, school spirit, and community support. It was great to see so many smiles (and a lot of miles!) as students ran, cheered each other on, and celebrated being active together. We also wrapped up a fantastic Book Fair, which created a real buzz throughout the building. Students had the opportunity to explore new books, build their home libraries, and further grow their love of reading. A big thank you to our staff and volunteers who helped make both events so special. Moments like these are a great reminder of the strong sense of community that makes Hopkins such a special place.

Scenes from HMS Scenes from HMS

Hopkinton Middle School continues to offer meaningful opportunities for students to engage deeply in their learning while building a strong sense of community. Our HMS Science Olympiad team achieved its strongest-ever performance at the Massachusetts State Science Olympiad, held at Assumption University. In just its third year of competition, the team earned an impressive fourth-place finish overall—an incredible accomplishment that reflects the students’ dedication, curiosity, and hard work. Our Middle School Jazz Band also took the stage, showcasing their talent, hard work, and the strength of our performing arts program. Students also contributed to one of our community’s most meaningful traditions by creating posters for the Runners’ Village in preparation for the Boston Marathon. This effort highlights the pride our students take in their town and the ways they connect their creativity and learning to the broader Hopkinton community.

Hopkinton High School has been full of energy and meaningful experiences these past few weeks. The Best Buddies Prom was a highlight, bringing together students from Hopkinton, Holliston, Medway, and Ashland for a truly special night centered on inclusion, connection, and fun. We also had our spring RAD simulation, followed by a thoughtful debrief with participating officers, an important experience that reinforces safety, awareness, and real-world readiness. And, as always, our Student Council helped bring the school together during Spring Spirit Week, adding some fun, school pride, and a lot of smiles across the building.

Our Amazing Teachers!! Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8)

This month, we’re proud to shine our Top of the Hill spotlight on the incredible teachers across the Hopkinton Public Schools. The week of May 4–8 marks Teacher Appreciation Week, but the impact of our teachers is felt far beyond a single week. It’s something our students experience every single day, all year long.

We are truly fortunate to have such dedicated, caring, and talented professionals working with our students. Whether it’s through a small moment of encouragement, a thoughtful lesson, or going the extra mile to support a child, our teachers consistently show up in ways that make a lasting difference. They challenge, inspire, and care deeply about every student they serve, and they are a major reason why our schools continue to be such special places for learning and growth.

We encourage you to take a moment to reach out and share your appreciation. A quick note, a kind word, or a simple thank you can go a long way.

To all of our teachers: THANK YOU! We are grateful for you each and every day.
