For Educational Diagnosticians and ARD Facilitators
Welcome!
My name is Amy Smith and I am the newest Region 10 Evaluation Consultant. I will be supporting LEAs with technical assistance and professional learning in the areas of evaluation, ARD supports, child find and legal framework. This monthly newsletter is intended to provide quick links to key information you need to support your LEA with evaluation, child find and ARD facilitation activities.
Like many of you, I cannot believe it is already November while at the same time this feels like the LONGEST year in history! A year ago the concept of a 'social distancing' was foreign to most of us, we had likely never ran or participated in a 'zoom call' and only those in professions that rely on stats understood the concept of the bell curve and now we are all trying to flatten one! And if that isn't enough newness for one year, the ever changing world of special education continues to keep us on our toes. Now more than ever we need to practice gratitude and take care of ourselves! I encourage you to recognize that YOU are an important part of the solution. Every day you choose to show up and bring your best, you make a difference in the lives of those you support, students, parents and staff. So find a way to practice gratitude for others and for the amazing work you do every day!
Evaluators Expo
Understanding a student's academic strengths and weaknesses as part of our evaluations is critical in producing quality recommendations and impact statements for the FIE. Here is a recent webinar produced by Pearson that discusses how the new WIAT 4 data can be used to understand these reading challenges.

ARD Facilitator Focus
As you know we are to consider the general education classroom option for all students who receive special education services at least annually. How do you currently assure this is part of the ARD meetings that you facilitate? Here are some tools that you may want to consider to improve this process and ensure all students are accessing the general education curriculum in their least restrictive environment:
TEA UPDATES AND VIDEO TRAININGS
As we continue to navigate the challenges of COVID and remote learning, you are encouraged to review the following TEA presentations which were recently provided as guidance on requirements in regards to goals, accommodations and modifications, progress monitoring during remote instruction, and compensatory services. As always, you should consult with your director to determine how your LEA will implement any changes in practice.

Region 10 Virtual Office Hours For Evaluators
During the school building closures in the spring, we started to hold weekly virtual office hours. This was an opportunity for LSSPs and diags to come together to ask questions about how we are addressing the myriad of issues that we were dealing with and learning from each other.
This school year we know that many of people will have ideas questions, and concerns, so we will be offering the virtual office hours again from 1:30-2:30 on the dates below. This is not a formal PD session, but rather an open forum to ask and answer questions of your colleagues.
Dates for the sessions with links to sign-up:
Sessions can be found on the Region 10 Calendar of Events.
