Message from the Principal
Dear AE Families,
I hope this message finds you well and that you had a restful Thanksgiving break!
As we reach the end of November and prepare to turn the calendar to the final month of the year, I find myself holding onto the spirit of the season. Over the break, I had time to reflect on the first few months of this school year, and my overwhelming sentiment is one of gratitude for this community.
We often talk about student success, but it is important to recognize how that success happens. It is rarely an individual effort. The growth we are seeing in our classrooms is the direct result of a dedicated partnership between our staff and our families. Thank you for the countless ways you support your children’s education at home. When we work together, as a unified team, we create the strongest possible foundation for our students to thrive.
As we enter the busy stretch between now and winter break, I ask for your continued collaboration. Let us keep the lines of communication open and maintain the routines that help our students arrive ready to learn every day.
Thank you for a wonderful November. I look forward to a strong finish to the semester together.
Warmly,
Becky Hoover
Parent-Teacher Conference Feedback
Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent parent-teacher conferences. Your partnership is essential to your child's success!
We are committed to making these conferences as valuable and accessible as possible for all families. To help us improve the format, communication, and overall experience, we kindly request your honest feedback.
This quick survey focuses on two key areas:
Conference Format: How effective was the length, scheduling, and structure?
Removing Barriers: What steps can the district take to make it easier for every family to attend and participate in conferences?
Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts by Friday, December 12th. Your insights will directly inform how we plan and organize future family engagement opportunities.
Thank you for helping us strengthen our school-family partnership!
First Quarter Awards
Congratulations to the students recognized below who have earned Dutchmen Champion or Honor Roll Awards for the first quarter of the school year!
Dutchmen Champion Awards
Honor Roll Awards
If your child has earned recognition on the honor roll and you would like to commemorate this accomplishment, certificates can be printed upon request.
Message from the School Nurse
Hello Families!
November is almost over — a month to give thanks, enjoy family time, and focus on staying healthy as the weather gets cooler. Here are a few reminders and health tips to help keep our students feeling their best!
Cold & Flu Season is Here
With the colder weather, an increase in seasonal illnesses is expected. Please help keep our school healthy by:
- Encouraging handwashing before meals and after coughing or sneezing.
- Teaching children to cover coughs and sneezes with their elbow or tissue. (Have students bring personal cough drops to be kept with the nurse.)
- A fever of 100.0°F (38°C) or higher
- Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
- A persistent cough or fatigue that interferes with learning
Remember, children should be fever-free (without medication) for 24 hours before returning to school.
Flu & Vaccination Updates
Flu shots are strongly recommended for all students and staff. The flu vaccine is available through your healthcare provider, local clinics, and many pharmacies.
If your child receives updated immunizations, please send a copy to the school nurse’s office so we can keep records current.
Healthy Habits for Fall
Eat the rainbow! Include a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables in your meals.
Stay hydrated: It’s easy to forget water in cooler weather. Please remind students to bring water bottles to school.
Get moving: Play outside when possible — fresh air helps boost immunity and mood.
Rest: School-aged children need 9–11 hours of sleep per night.
Mental Health Matters
November can be busy and sometimes stressful. Encourage your child to talk about their feelings and take “quiet time” when needed. Gratitude practices — like naming three things you’re thankful for each day — can improve mental well-being.
Cold Weather Reminders
Please make sure your child comes to school with a coat, hat, and gloves as temperatures drop. Label items with your child’s name to help us return lost clothing.
Medical Forms
Please check your student’s backpack for medical forms that need to be signed and returned, regarding plans for 3rd-grade dental exams, 6th-grade physical exams, vision referrals, or asthma and food allergy needs.
Nurse Office Coverage
Due to my personal medical leave through January, Melissa Mong, LPN, Float Nurse, will be covering the office for me. Please send messages directly to her at mmong@acschools.org so that we can ensure continuity of care. You may also email her the scheduled dates or completed forms of required medical exams that are due.
Thank You
Thank you for all you do to keep our students healthy and ready to learn!
December Spirit Calendar
Dressing for the Changing Temperatures
With the recent drop in temperatures, we want to ensure all students are comfortable and ready to learn throughout the school day. Please remind your child to come to school dressed appropriately for the colder weather, including coats, hats, and gloves as needed. Students also need to be dressed appropriately for outdoor recess, which will take place each day as long as the real feel temperature is above 28 degrees.
While our nurse’s office does have a small supply of warmer clothing available for students to borrow, it is limited. Thank you for helping us keep everyone warm, healthy, and ready for a great day of learning!
