A Message from Dr. Gough

August 19, 2026

Dear WPS Community,

We are excited to welcome back our students and staff to the 2026-2027 year! Next week, new WPS staff will participate in their three-day orientation. School offices will open on August 25th. With the exception of Extended Day, all staff will return on Monday, August 31st. On Wednesday, September 2nd, the school year for students in grades 1 through 12 commences. PreK and K students will join us on Tuesday, September 8th. We have included links to start and end times as well as the 2026-2027 school year calendar. Bus Routes are posted on the WPS Transportation website.

The Walpole High School renovation project is nearing completion and building access begins August 24th. This year, families will drop off and pick up at the back of the building, while the new bus drop-off will be in the front driveway. This updated pattern will ensure increased safety for everyone during morning and afternoon arrival and dismissal. The new site plan can be found here. We are excited to welcome our students and families into these newly renovated spaces! These improvements represent a significant investment in our school community, designed to help our students learn, grow, collaborate, and thrive.

Please make sure to review your child’s school website at all levels for the most up-to-date school opening information. Schedules and homerooms have been posted, and any questions should be directed to your child’s principal.

I look forward to our continued work together and wish everyone an enjoyable remainder of the summer.

Bridget A. Gough, Ed.D.

Back to School/Curriculum Nights

Our Back to School/Curriculum Nights provide families with a valuable opportunity to get a first-hand glimpse into your child's educational journey. These are informative sessions designed to bridge the gap between home and school. You’ll be able to meet your child's teachers, gain insights into classroom routines, curriculum plans, and discover how you can actively support your child's learning experience.

A few reasons to attend:

  1. Meet the Educators: Connect with your child's teachers and learn their teaching philosophies, goals, and the classroom environment. Establishing this personal connection sets the foundation for a strong partnership throughout the school year.

  2. Curriculum Insights: Gain a deeper understanding of the subjects and topics your child will be exploring. Teachers will outline the curriculum and provide insights into how you can reinforce learning at home.

  3. Classroom Dynamics: Gain insight into the classroom atmosphere and routines. Understand daily schedules, expectations, and communication channels, ensuring a smooth and supportive learning experience for your child.

  4. Ask Questions: This is the perfect space to ask questions, seek clarification, and address any concerns you might have. Open communication between parents and educators is crucial for your child's academic success.

  5. Community Building: Back-to-School Nights provide an opportunity to connect with other families in your child's class. Building a supportive network can enrich your family's school experience.
