π« Attendance Procedures
As the new school year approaches, El Paso ISD is reminding families about an important attendance requirement that will be in effect beginning with the 2026-27 school year.
Students must attend at least 90% of the school days or class periods in order to receive course credit or a final grade, as required by Texas law.
For elementary students, missing more than 17 days during a typical school year may affect whether they automatically can earn credit or a final grade.
For more information, including answers to frequently asked questions, please visit the attendance page on EPISD.org or click the button below. Regular school attendance is one of the most important factors in your childβs academic success. Each day of instruction builds on the previous one, and frequent absences can make it difficult for students to stay on track. We want every child to have the best opportunity to learn and grow, and being present at school each day is a critical part of that.
If your child must be absent, please remember that a written notice is required. This may be submitted either in person to the school office or by email at moreno_notes@episd.org. Without a written notice, the absence will be recorded as unexcused in accordance with district policy.
We appreciate your partnership in ensuring your child attends school regularly and arrives ready to learn. Together, we can help all of our students succeed.

π Parent Tips for School Success
- Keep a consistent bedtime and morning routine so your child arrives at school rested and ready to learn.
- Set a βstudy spotβ at home thatβs quiet, well-lit, and free from distractions
- Spend 10β15 minutes a night reviewing what your child learned that day (sight words, math facts, vocabulary, etc.).
Ask them to teach you something they learnedβteaching strengthens memory.
Check your childβs planner, folder, or backpack daily for homework, notes, or school announcements.
Help them build a simple to-do list for homework so they learn time management.
4. Read Every Day π
Read with or to your child 20 minutes a nightβno matter the grade level.
For older students, encourage independent reading and then have a short discussion about the book.
5. Communicate with Teachers
Reach out if your child is struggling or confusedβdonβt wait until report cards.
Celebrate successes and let your childβs teacher know whatβs working well at home.
6. Build Independence
Encourage your child to pack their own backpack, lay out clothes, and check their homework.
Praise effort, not just resultsββI like how hard you worked on this!β
7. Keep School Positive π
Ask specific questions like, βWhat was your favorite part of math today?β instead of βHow was school?β
Celebrate small winsβfinishing homework, improving on a spelling test, or reading a new book.
8. Balance Academics & Fun
Give kids time for play, movement, and creativity after school. A healthy balance helps them stay focused academically.
