What is happening in each class.
Reading w/ Mrs. Remington
We have been working hard on identifying themes and analyzing how a story develops its theme through plot and characters. We recently culminated this practice with The Wave. Additionally, we continue to focus on vocabulary development weekly, and the students are showing noticeable growth in acquiring new words.
Next, we will be starting a Dystopian Unit. Students will read a selection of short stories and a novel within the dystopian genre. To kick off the unit, they will create their own Utopian societies. As part of this project, they will be assessed on their presentation skills and their ability to collaborate effectively in a group.
Math w/ Mr. Redstone
We are in Unit 4 where students are learning how to solve linear equations. We started by learning about how to simplify expressions by using the distributive property and combining like terms. We then moved on to learning how to solve one step and two step equations. Up next was multiple step equations that involved the distributive property, combining like terms and variables on both sides. In the upcoming weeks, we will be learning about equations that have no solution or infinite solutions and then on to solving systems of equations.
Social Studies w/ Mr. Oliver
In Social Studies students are now going to focus on the Constitution. The groundwork has been completed in respect to the Declaration of Independence from Britain, the Revolutionary War, and the situation left in the new Country after the Independence was achieved. A big theme of the Unit will be "Compromise". We will also analyze the Constitution itself, as well as the Bill of Rights. As always, we will be discussing current events that involve the Constitution, Functions of Government, and ways to participate in our Government as a citizen. If students are absent, I have provided a Pacing Guide on Google Classroom. If the class activity is one that can be done electronically, it will be provided.
Science w/ Ms. Cloutier
Hello, as we wrap up January we are wrapping up the Forces and Motion unit. Kids are taking the final cumulative summative the first week of February, with a re-do option the following week. Students who are ready to move on will begin designing and building egg drops. Directly after that we will be building our mousetrap cars. This will take us through the month of February, March will bring us into our final unit of Chemistry.
Literature w/ Ms. Maurais
We’ve officially wrapped up our argumentative unit! Students did an amazing job filming their product commercials, finalizing their advertisements, and delivering engaging presentations. As we move into February, we’ll shift our focus to a book-related project, dive deeper into character work through perspective and point of view, and transition into more creative writing assignments. Our next steps will include exploring figurative language and analyzing narratives to enhance students’ storytelling skills.
