Teacher Appreciation Week: May 4–8

This week, we want to recognize and thank our incredible teachers at West Delaware High School.

Each day, our teachers challenge students, support them, encourage them, hold them accountable, and help prepare them for what comes next. Their work makes a lasting difference in the lives of our students and in our school community.

We encourage students, families, and community members to take a moment this week to thank a teacher or offer a few words of encouragement. A simple note, message, or kind word can go a long way.

Thank you, teachers, for all you do!

May:

🏆 Senior Awards Night: West Delaware has the distinct pleasure to invite the WD Class of 2026 seniors, parents, family, friends and community members to Senior Awards Night on Wednesday, May 6th at 7 PM in Hanson Auditorium. We will be celebrating at this prestigious platform recognizing our seniors’ remarkable achievements and dedication to academics, athletics, arts and community service. We look forward to seeing you at Hanson Auditorium!

2027-2028 Schedules: Counselors are working hard to build student schedules for the 27-28 school year. Students and parents will receive schedules in the mail early June. Counselors are out of office until mid August and will be available August 11th to meet with students prior to the start of the school year to make changes to schedules. Should students not be available during this time, they will have the opportunity to make changes the first few days of the school year. Be on the lookout for more information.

🧠 Brain Health Bit: Mental Health Awareness Week: Students and staff spent the first week of May bringing awareness during world wide Mental Health Awareness Week! Activities included positive mindsets, a digital detox cell phone challenge, and a school wide picnic lunch courtesy of the WD Food Service and Delaware County Pork Producers. We hope these activities continue to break down the negative stigma associated with mental health in our school and community. Thank you for your support of the Together We Are Brain Health Campaign again this year---we look forward to continuing to ending the stigma next school year!

The West Delaware Health Office is asking families to review the following important reminders.

Incoming 12th Grade Students: Meningitis Vaccine Requirement

Students entering 12th grade next year are required by Iowa law to have the meningococcal ACWY vaccine before the start of the school year. Most students need two doses, with the second dose given on or after age 16. If your student received their first dose on or after age 16, only one dose is required. Students can also turn in a signed Religious Exemption form in lieu of proof of the vaccination, if your family has chosen to stop getting vaccinations.

Families are encouraged to check with their student’s healthcare provider now to avoid the back-to-school rush. Proof of vaccination, a valid exemption, or a provisional certificate must be submitted before the 2026–2027 school year.

To schedule an appointment with Regional Family Health, call 563-927-7777. For questions, contact your healthcare provider or Delaware County Public Health at 563-927-7551.

Incoming 9th Grade Students: Dental Screening Requirement

Families of students entering 9th grade should also be aware of the required dental screening. Please begin making plans to complete this requirement and submit the necessary documentation to the school.

PowerSchool Medical, Contact, and Permission Information

Parents and guardians are asked to review their child’s medical and contact information in PowerSchool. Please make sure phone numbers, emergency contacts, health conditions, medications, and other important information are accurate and updated.

Families should also review student permissions, including Emergency Medical Release and Over-the-Counter Medication permissions. Having this information updated helps the Health Office care for students more quickly and efficiently when needed.

These permissions can be found in PowerSchool under:

Student Profile > Permissions

Thank you for helping us keep student records current and supporting a healthy start to the next school year.
