Leader of the Month - September
We celebrated our September Leaders of the Month on October 3. The students were recognized for a variety of reasons, including exceptional behavior, positive attitude, and reaching a goal. We are so proud of the work our students are doing here at Crossroads each and every day!
Leader In Me: School - Home Connection
Imagine a school morning where everyone knows what to do and is ready on time. Organization is a skill learned over time. By teaching organization at home, your student will learn this important skill. Modeling these skills will encourage your student to take responsibility for their own organization.
Use these first three habits as a learning tool for you and your student:
HABIT 1: BE PROACTIVE
Habit 1 is about initiative and responsibility. Each night, help your student determine what they will need for the next day. To start, writing a list may be helpful.
HABIT 2: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND
Habit 2 is about visualizing how you would like something to turn out before it happens. If a smooth morning is the goal, brainstorm with your student how that will look and feel. Your student may actually have time to do something extra in the morning if they are organized, and you will all have a happy start to the day.
HABIT 3: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST
Habit 3 means focusing on the task when there’s something else you would rather be doing—the hardest part of all! Help your student learn how to avoid distractions by reminding them that, if they stick to it, all the fun things can come right after! Once students know these habits and how to apply them, they can start tackling more difficult tasks independently. They will begin to feel self-confident and proud when they’re able to complete homework and other tasks by themselves.
CONCLUSION
Remember, it may take time to teach your student these skills. Sometimes, it will seem simpler just to do it for them. Using Habits 1–3 is a life skill that will benefit them their entire lives.
Message From Nurse Teresa
Hi, everyone! Cold and flu season is upon us….Just a friendly reminder to encourage your kids to practice these important health habits to keep themselves, and everyone at school, healthy:
- Good handwashing!
- Covering a cough/sneeze with the inside of your elbow
- Stay home if sick (see notes below)
- Drink lots of water
- Get plenty of rest
- Eat healthy foods
*Side note - If your student has borrowed any clothes from the clinic this year, we would appreciate it if you could please return them once cleaned so other students may use them when needed. Thanks!
Vision and Hearing Screenings
We’ve finished up vision screenings for this year. If your student did not pass the screening, a vision referral letter was sent home with your student last week. Please return the form to me, completed by the doctor, if you take your student for further examination. We will begin hearing screenings in November when we get back from our fall break. Please refer to the letter I emailed on October 1 for more information and reach out if you have questions.
Illness Reminders
If your student is sick, please keep him/her home to avoid the spread of germs. If your student has a fever (100 F or above), vomiting, or diarrhea, he/she should stay home until fever and symptom-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications like Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

If you know a veteran who would like to attend, please have them RSVP by November 4 using the Veteran RSVP Form.
Families are welcome to attend alongside their invited Veterans. Due to space limitations, we kindly ask that groups be limited to immediate family only. Thank you for helping us celebrate and honor those who have served! You can find more information on our website at www.crossroadspta.org/veteransday.

Wentzville School District Updates
Wentzville Wow Factor Award
We are feeling extra thankful for amazing staff this month! Has your child's teacher made a significant impact? Do you want to recognize a staff member who goes above and beyond? Celebrate a teacher or employee with a Wentzville Wow Factor Award anytime throughout the school year to let them know they are making a difference! Nominate a Staff Member.
WSD Grading Practices
In case you missed it, first quarter grades are available to view in Focus, and the WSD is using Standards-Based Grading to help teachers—and families—see exactly what your child has learned and where they might need more support. Learn more about Standards-Based Grading and what you might see on your child's report card.
WSD Holiday Assistance Program
Would you like to bring a little holiday cheer to a WSD family? Each year in December the WSD Holiday Assistance Program helps to provide gifts for students in need and their families. Last year 361 families and 982 children received assistance in this charitable effort! The program works with businesses, community groups, and individuals to help make the upcoming holidays more enjoyable for struggling families. In our schools, students and staff do a variety of things to raise money and collect gifts, and many families are adopted by their own caring school community. But there is always a need for additional community support.
If you would like to adopt a family, please contact (636) 327-3800 x20358 or zacharybreckle@wsdr4.org.
Arrival and Dismissal - Please Read Carefully
All car riders and daycare van riders will go to the gym at the end of the day. Once in the gym, a staff member will call students’ names over the radio for them to come out to meet their vehicle. A staff member will escort students to each car.
Important: Parents are no longer allowed to walk up to pick up their children. Please use the car pick-up line.
Bright blue car tags will be distributed at Meet-the-Teacher Night. If you are unable to attend, tags will be sent home with students on the first day of school. Please check with the office if you need a car tag. USE A THICK MARKER TO FILL THESE OUT.
When driving through the car lanes, please display the bright blue car tag on your dashboard where names can be easily seen. If you do not have a car tag, staff will need to check your ID, contact the office for clearance, and then call your child. This process slows down pick-up for everyone.
A few additional reminders:
Dismissal changes will not be accepted after 3:00 p.m.
Student safety is our top priority. Because 3:20 p.m. is a busy time, we cannot allow office checkouts after 3:20 p.m. Please plan accordingly.
If your child is a walker but will become a car rider due to inclement weather, you are responsible for notifying the school. We no longer send text messages about rainy-day dismissals.
