Headteacher's comment
It’s been a super week in school, rounded off in great style with Comic Relief! We heard some terrific jokes from the children — all in aid of such a worthy cause. Earlier in the week, pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Science Week, investigating the fascinating scientific questions set by Mr Biltcliffe, our Science Leader. It was also lovely to see so many parents and carers at Thursday’s Parents’ Evening — thank you for your continued support. Wishing everyone a restful and happy weekend!

Collective Worship
We're All Wonders
This week in Collective Worship, we explored the picture book We’re All Wonders by R. J. Palacio. The story introduces us to August, a boy with a facial difference, who explains that while he cannot change the way he looks, he hopes people can change the way they see. The book gently reminds the children that we are all different, and that it is our uniqueness that makes each of us special. Through this story, pupils were encouraged to reflect on kindness, acceptance and the importance of seeing the person beyond outward appearance.
As part of our continued focus on understanding disability this half term, class worship built on these ideas by learning about Jono Lancaster, who was born in Dewsbury and has Treacher Collins syndrome, a condition that affects the development of facial bones. The children learned about the challenges Jono faced growing up, as well as how he now lives his life with confidence, proudly embracing his authentic self and inspiring others through his message of acceptance, love and resilience.
Guided by our Christian values, we are committed to nurturing our pupils so they grow into well-rounded, respectful and compassionate individuals. Through these worships, we aim to deepen children’s understanding of difference, encouraging them to show empathy, celebrate diversity and recognise the value and dignity of every person.

Comic Relief 2026
What a fantastic Red Nose Day we’ve had! The children certainly lived up to the theme of being ‘funny for money’, sharing some absolutely brilliant jokes — a few even managed to make Mr Stone laugh out loud! It was wonderful to see so many pupils dressed in red, showing such great spirit and kindness in support of a very worthy cause. Thank you to everyone who joined in and donated — your enthusiasm and generosity really made the day special.
Do join us on Saturday 21st March as we think about the Easter story at Messy Church. With crafts, games, songs and praise and refreshments, we look forward to seeing you at Thornhill Social Club from 4pm.
