Dear Families,

March has already been an incredibly busy month, and it doesn't show signs of slowing down anytime soon. Read Across America Week was a great experience, and Music in our Schools Month is in full swing!

March is always the time to remind ourselves where we are in the continuum of our year of learning. I say "our learning", because as parents we are always learning. About this time last year, I shared the new challenges kids may face toward the end of our second trimester, and the importance of your continued support and conversations about your child's learning at home. I believe it bears repeating. As parents, our worlds are often chaotic, and we need to just take a breath. We also need reminders about how critical our role is in our child's learning development. Thank you for your continued support, conversations, and learning.

<Reprinted from March 2025>

While our March activities have been a great way for our school to continue its culture of belonging and having fun together, LEARNING new and exciting content, strategies and skills remains our primary focus. March is often where the rubber meets the road when it comes to the application of skills and knowledge in a grade level. Students are asked to apply the skills they've been working so hard to develop all year. In their Literacy Block, students are asked to read more deeply, cite evidence from text, elaborate on evidence and express their opinions based on evidence. In Math, students are asked to solve multi-step problems, explain their thinking and articulate their problem solving approach.

Parents often ask how they can support their child's learning at home. Having conversations with your kids about their learning is one of the best ways to help them cement their learning and make it more meaningful. Understandably, it can certainly be challenging to get them talking. (i.e. How was school today? "Good". What did you learn today? "Stuff") Try using class newsletters to ask about specific books, topics, or how they are solving problems in Math class. Not only can this help your child's learning, but maybe most importantly, it shows your child you value their learning and the importance of school. This article talks more about the do's and don'ts to help those conversations along. Good luck...and keep 'em talking!

If you would like to chaperone a field trip, help with the Fun Run, volunteer at Field Day, or volunteer in any way, please be sure your CORI is up to date. The CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and Fingerprinting are required done if you are interested in volunteering at the Brown School or chaperoning your child's field trip this year. The CORI process is a multi step process and it can take some time to be approved (this time varies).

**CORI is good for 3 years. Some of our third grade parents who have been volunteering since kindergarten may need to be updated.

Access Aspen for your Child's Report

Our classroom teachers, Allied Arts teachers, Special Educators, and service providers are all reviewing every child's formal progress and making their last observations of the trimester as we prepare the second trimester report cards. These progress reports help parents understand how your child is learning and developing as we close out our second trimester and usher in trimester 3. Please remember the report card shows indicators for students' end of year goals. Report cards will be visible to parents and caregivers in Aspen on the afternoon of March 27.

WOWZERS! Thank you Brown School Community! WOWZERS! Thank you Brown School Community!

Great Job Kids!

We had a VERY successful Kids Heart Challenge Month! We had 255 students register and raised just over $23,000 for the American Heart Association!!! Thank you to all of the Marblehead students and families who supported this annual effort. All studnets learned about the parts of the heart, how it works and how important it is to take care of our heart. DAMAR HAMLIN of the Buffalo Bills challenged our students to learn Hands Only CPR by completing Finn's Mission. 81 of our Brown School Students completed the Mission. Nice work!
