Celebrate Archer Glen!
For our final week, we saved the best for last! This week, we are highlighting our students! Day after day, our students show up in amazing ways. Whether it’s supporting their peers, working hard in class, extending kindness to someone in need or participating in any kind of enrichment activity, they go above and beyond and represent our school well! We are so proud of our students. 🧡
Chef Sherwood
As a culminating prize to our “Responsibility Challenge,” students were randomly selected from multiple classrooms to participate in our first Chef Sherwood. During this event, students created chef hats, were given a tour of our kitchen, tasted a variety of fruits and participated in making a smoothie that they got to enjoy, along with their peers. We appreciate our Nutrition Services Department for helping make this happen!
Eagle Ambassadors
Each year as 4th graders, students have the opportunity to apply to be an Eagle Ambassador as a 5th grader. Through the application process, we are looking for students who can serve as role models in helping around the school. Our Eagle Ambassadors support both students and teachers. We are grateful to have their help and they are very loved by our youngest students!
Library
The Archer Glen Library had an exciting start to the year by having the highest percentage of readers in the Winter Reading program. Our students earned a new Lego book for our Library! This is a program that we partner with the Sherwood Public Library to help promote reading over Winter Break. Students that participated earned a small prize and an extra library book checkout for the remainder of the school year!
Our students recently participated in the Patricia Gallagher Children’s Choice Book Award through the Oregon State Literacy Association where students get to vote on their favorite children’s picture book after listening to the five nominated books. Ask your student which book they voted for! We did this right around the same time that the American Library Association announced the award winning books for the year like the Caldecott and Newbery award winning books which are always highly anticipated.
Our Library strives to encourage a lifetime love of reading! Be sure to watch for information on our Spring Book Fair in May. We will also have Summer Reading Bingo forms in June to help keep our students excited about reading over the summer!
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)
We just completed Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) at Archer Glen. OBOB is an optional reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries available to all 3rd-5th grade students at AG. OBOB encourages team camaraderie and the enjoyment of books from a variety of genres and authors. It is an excellent program to inspire kids to read! The Archer Glen OBOB program is run by our Instructional Coach and all 3rd-5th grade teachers. We are sending a fantastic team onto regionals this weekend. Good luck, Archer Glen Eagles!
Spelling Bee
Each year, our 4th and 5th graders participate in a local Spelling Bee. Once grade level winners are identified (from in-class assessments), we hold an Archer Glen Spelling Bee. This year, our winner was Prakrithi Balasubramanian! We are excited for Prakrithi to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee in March!
