SOUPER Supper

FES students in Grades K-4 participated in soup making on Thursday to provide an offering for our community supper at the Francestown Meeting House. It seems cheeseburger soup was the favorite to make and with many hands they chopped, sliced and diced to bring this unique soup to life. Our K-1 class had an additional offering by making homemade applesauce! The evening was a great success with many attending. We appreciate the support of our FES Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and our own Jen MacKay, Administrative Assistant, who managed and organized the schedule that allowed all of our students a way to participate. We hope everyone enjoyed the evening!

K-1 Apple Investigations

We began a unit on the apple life cycle this week. We learned the parts of an apple and the different stages of the life cycle.

Kindergarten has begun Unit 2 of the new Illustrative Math curriculum as First Grade students continue with Unit 1 to deepen their skills on what makes ten. In literacy, 1st grade practiced reading more advanced words with short a, such as glam and blast. Kindergarten learned the letter p, and is starting to write and read CVC words!

Special of the Week - MUSIC with Ms. Neilssen!

It was a great first week of music at FES!

K/1 learned about the beat in music and how to move to it and play it! It was fun to explore lots of different ways to respond to the music. They used scarves, instruments, and their bodies to show the beat.

The 1/2 class learned about steady beat and we practiced playing instruments along with the beat, using many silly poems, songs, and even our own creations!

Grades 3 and 4 reviewed steady beat. They loved using the Boomwhackers to play along with songs. Circle games and movement games were a big success to help them learn about beat versus rhythm.

Celebrating our Uniqueness in the Grade 1-2 Class

This week Mrs. Carbonneau's grade 1/2 class has been working on completing our Identities and Families unit in Social Studies. Our recent learning has been about family diversity. Our families have ways they are the same and also different. Students talked about how families can have many children or just one. They can live in the same place or different places. We have begun a discussion about our next learning adventure in science! We will be learning about animal homes and habitats. In math, we have been doing data collection and graphing our data. So much fun asking friends their favorite colors and seasons and enjoying our discoveries in nature with Cornucopia!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Carbonneau

Third and Fourth Graders are Going Around the World

This week in Ms. Parisi's class 3rd and 4th graders just finished their first literacy unit where they learned how to take notes from stories about people from all around the world accessing books. In math class third graders are learning how to think about multiplication as equal groups and fourth graders are learning how to find equivalent fractions using number lines and models. We also started our first lesson for science! Students created their own finger that can bend using a string as a tendon!
