PARENT LIAISON CORNER
Fundraising Committee: Cody, Isabella M, Arnica and Mia
We want to thank all of you that came out to Chick-fil-A and supported the VA student "dine out" fundraiser. Your support brought in $118 for the visual arts department.
We have ONE MORE final push for raising funds this year. We are bringing back the "Non-Fundraiser Fundraiser" that parents voted for which we introduced earlier this year. So far there has been $550 raised BY ONLY 3 FAMILIES! A big thank you to those families for their amazing participation:
9th grade: Ava M and family
11th grade: Cody B and family
12th grade: Katie N and family
We KNOW more of you out of the 63 visual arts families can help us by participating! This fundraiser can help us to end the year strong and be set up for success! Please do your very best to participate in this fundraiser as we approach the last marking period of the school year. Our "last push goal" is for EVERY visual arts family to do their best to raise $50 which would total $3,150. Our "dream goal" is to double that total, but we appreciate ANY amount you can give because every single dollar matters. It's perfect timing to ask for support from friends and family with spring break and the Easter holiday right around the corner. This last push to make the Non-Fundraiser Fundraiser a huge success will end on Friday, April 17th!
Just a reminder there will be a pizza party for the grade level that raises the most money. At this point, 11th grade is in the lead. Below is the Non-Fundraiser Fundraiser if you would like to print and send in with your donation. PLEASE do your best to support the amazing opportunities that the visual arts department offers and the materials provided for your students. EVERY DOLLAR MAKES A DIFFERENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS!
****** NON-FUNDRAISER FORM : Print and return this form by Friday, April 17th! *********

Updates:
A Great Day in Baltimore
The trip to AVMA and BMA museums in Baltimore was a great day. We had dumping rain and then dumping snow, following the beautiful day of temperatures in the 80s the day before the trip. The crazy weather didn't stop the students, staff, and chaperones from having a great time and enjoying incredible artwork at the AVMA and BMA. A big shout out to all of the parent chaperones that spent their day with the visual arts students. We appreciate you!

Speaking of CELEBRATIONS... Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Spring Visual Arts Exhibition at BISFA! We need your help to make the exhibition great for our students. If you did not receive the email about it from Stacy Morris, please see below:
Good Afternoon,
I can hardly believe we’ve reached the point in the year when it’s time for the Spring Art Show! Our students have been working diligently on their artwork this semester, and they are so excited to share their creativity with you and with members of our community.
As we prepare for the exhibition, we are reaching out for your help—much like we did for the Winter Show. Your support truly helps make these events special for our students. If you’re able, please consider signing up to donate refreshments for opening night or to volunteer as a gallery monitor during the gallery open houses. Students who sign up to help will also earn SSL hours.

What's Been Happening in the VA Classes?
News from Mr. Geiman:
Grade 9 - DESIGN I
This course is a continuation of the Foundations of Art course. Students are studying the elements of art and design. Each week or so we focus on a different element of art. Students are focusing on the element of color and creating a basic color wheel. They will later use the color wheel, or parts of it, to create a color themed composition of choice in their journals. Next up, the students will focus on the element of value and create a series of value bar exercises using a variety of mark making media.
Grade 9 - 3D STUDIO ART I
Students will be introduced to three-dimensional art forms with an emphasis on the introduction to materials and techniques used in ceramics and sculpture processes. They will explore foundational practices in three-dimensional design tasks and have a ton of fun in doing so. Students will begin by creating a simple pinch pot and work their way up to using the potter’s wheel! Students have already completed two pinch pot projects and are currently working on an advanced pinch pot project in which they must attach at least two pots together to create an elaborate vase form.
Grade 11 -3D STUDIO ART III
This class builds on the technical and conceptual foundations of the previous two courses, however, students will be given more freedom to explore topics and processes of personal interest. To begin, students have been given the opportunity to create works of art of choice for various contests and charitable events. Next up, students will begin focusing on sculpting facial features to attach to various wheel or hand-built vessels.
Grade 12 - SPECIAL TOPIC STUDIO ART
This advanced level class will focus on current topics of interest to both the students and contemporary artists. As a group, students will decide the focus of their course of study throughout the semester. In the beginning, students will work collectively on preparation for their senior exhibition at HCC. In addition to matting and framing their artwork, they will create a group installation project which will be installed at HCC as part of their senior exhibition. Post exhibition, students will focus on a special topic of interest to be determined. Previous groups had created works and curated an art exhibition to bring awareness to special topics, brought in guest artists for thematic painting and fiber based workshops, and created murals for local nonprofits as well as making artwork for community events.
Grade 12 - AP 3D STUDIO ART & DESIGN
Students are continuing to create artworks that support their personal statement of inquiry with the goal of achieving synthesis with their ideas, materials and processes that they use. Currently, students are working on their sixth project which encompasses creating a type of a wearable body adornment sculpture.
