ORES Newsletter
August 25, 2023
Dear Oak Ridge R6 Families,
On behalf of the Oak Ridge staff, I would like to thank you for your patience with us as we have started a new school year with a new student information system. The student information system affects all aspects of the school including student demographic information, schedules, lunches, billing, payments, bus routes, assignments, attendance, grading, and much more. We are on the downhill side of comparing student information to the old system and making sure all student information is accurate and up-to-date in the new system.
Going forward, with online registration, the information parents entered this year will remain in the system and will only need to be updated if there are changes. This will save parents a lot of time filling out forms each year.
Here are a few tips we have learned about the new system:
While the system works with a phone app, not all aspects work with the phone app. It always works better when using a computer or using the web browser on a phone instead of the phone app. Currently, parents cannot pay for fees through the phone app effectively. Using a computer or the phone web browser is always the best bet. When filling out a free and reduced lunch application, the system works best when using a computer or the web browser on the phone, not the phone app. If a family's financial or living status changes, the free and reduced lunch application can be accessed online at anytime throughout the year.
We are more than happy to sit down and help parents walk through anything they need to navigate this system. We have computers set up to help parents without internet access.
We appreciate everyone allowing us to address school supplies in the elementary as we have this year. This was very helpful in many ways. We were able to start teaching/learning from day one with all students having the needed classroom supplies for school from the start.
Don't forget....there will be no school for students this coming Friday, September 1st and Monday, September 4th.
Please remember, we carry precious cargo each day. Be diligent to put phones down and pay extra attention, especially in high traffic times around the start and end of the school day. Please review with your teen drivers proper protocol when driving around buses. Below is an informational flyer about a new law that goes into affect this month regarding phone use while driving.
Elementary Pick Up And Drop Off Procedures:
This year, we have a pick up/drop off lane for elementary. Refer to the diagram below for more information. Use the right lane for drive through pick up/drop off only. If you need to park and come in, enter in the left lane parking lot area. Do not drop students off in the left lane as they will have to cross traffic to enter the building. Kindergarten through 5th grade parents, please remain in your vehicle and let us bring children to you. We have a good system in place for this. If you stop and get out of your vehicle, this only makes the pick up/drop off line take longer. Early Childhood parents, please use the left lane to enter the parking lot, park, and walk in to sign our your child.
September breakfast and lunch menus are linked below. We are sending home a hard copy with students for the September menus to give parents an opportunity to find them in the student portal. Menus will always be linked in this newsletter for the upcoming month.
REMINDERS:
Early Childhood-5th Grade parent morning drop off and evening pick up will be at the Early Childhood entrance behind the Baptist Church. Students are to be dropped off at this entrance between 7:00-7:40AM. After 7:40AM, students can be dropped off at the cafeteria entrance.
We offer before school care starting at 7:00AM for $3 per day for students signed up for the before school care program. If students are randomly dropped off without having been signed up, you will be charged $5 per day. Sign up using the before school care form and return it to the elementary office. There will be no after school care this year. Evening pick up for students is 3:15PM.
If your child will be riding a bike to school, please complete the permission to park a bike at school form below to ensure we know who bike riders are and so we can go over safety protocols for riding a bike on campus around bus and other vehicle traffic with these students.
A link to district handbooks is below. If you would like a printed copy, contact the office.
Like last year, all elementary classroom weekly newsletters will be linked by teacher name below. Please contact your teacher by email or Remind if you are unclear about anything on the newsletter for the coming week.
Drop off medications for students in the original container. Do not send medication to school with students.
We have included a link below to district Remind codes so you can join groups to stay informed. Please join your child's classroom Remind groups as soon as possible.
Enjoy the photos below our teachers' creativity and back to school photos to make this place a great place for our kids to enjoy learning!
If you need help with resources or your family, please let me know. We have access to many resources to help families in need. Students learn best when their essential needs are being met. As always, contact me if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help!
Sincerely,
Dr. Sonia Wood
