Questions
- Many students arrive to high school late in the mornings and most of the students are from the apartments across the street from the school that take them 5 minutes to cross to school. How is the situation with late arrivals at high school?
In fact, late arrivals have decreased compared to other dates. We are working on offering incentives and/or strategies to improve the situation, and students arrive to school on time. - How many absences must a student have to be given a letter to attend court?
Students must be at least 10% in school and if they have more than 3 or 4 unexcused absences, they are sent to court. It is also based on how severe the case of absences is, and that is when they are sent to court. It is recommended that the parent bring the justification of the absences to the schools personally to avoid them getting lost. - How late can a student arrive to class to be considered late?
The student must be seated in class at the time the teacher takes attendance. If the student is not present, he/she is counted late/absent. Many times, the teacher gives the student a few minutes at the beginning of class and if they are not there at this allotted time, they are also counted late. Why do parents not support more by getting involved or attending the Cross Country or Track program? Parent help is greatly needed.
The coach is the one who needs to have a meeting with the parents and recommend that the parents participate more by attending and explain the benefit of doing so.
