Mrs. DeRidder debuts new book
"Sometimes I would have too much energy when I was in school.” Mrs. Audra DeRidder, fifth grade teacher at Iron Mountain’s East Elementary School and author of the newly published “I’m Just Too Much” explained to a class of third grade students. Alongside sharing her journey with being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and her struggles growing up, she read her newly penned book to the class about Sylvie J., “a relatable child who feels like she is "just too much." Or does she? Maybe she is, but what's wrong with that?”
Thank you to Mrs. DeRidder for sharing her journey and congratulations on her new book!
Read to find out how Sylvie handles her feelings of being too much and what she learns along the way. You might even discover something new about yourself: https://www.amazon.com/Just-Too-Much-Audra-Deridder/dp/196076408X

Socks and Undies Drive
Thank you to the team of staff and student volunteers who helped bring our clothing closet to its former glory last week! We can not wait to debut it at Fine Arts Night on Tuesday for anybody in need (or anyone who would like to find their student's long lost jacket.)
But we need your help replenishing our supply of children's underwear and socks! We ask that all donations are new, for hygienic reasons. We receive MANY hats, mittens, and shirts but this huge need is often overlooked. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP!
Donations can be sent with your student, brought to the North Elementary or Superintendent offices, or to Fine Arts Night on Tuesday!
Our March is Reading Month celebration began on Friday, March 1! Our theme this year is “Magical World of Reading"! We have fun reading and magical activities planned for each day in March. There will be Treat Tuesdays, magic potion science experiments, Dress up Days, Flashlight Fridays, and many guests have been invited to read to our students. On Monday, March 18th, Cameron Zvara will be hosting a magic show!
We have attached a calendar so you can join us in celebrating reading each day in March!
We are hoping parents will click on the Sign-Up Genius links to donate items for our Read and Feed Days and our Green Eggs and Ham breakfast on THIS Friday, March 1st.

Student survey notification
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the
children in our district. The Iron Mountain Public School district values input from our
community – and we need to hear from your child or children! Students are important partners
as we work to improve our communication, academic program and overall experience for
everyone.
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for your child’s
feedback through online surveys they will be completing at school in the month of April. Grades
3-12 will be participating in taking the surveys. The surveys shouldn’t take more than 20
minutes to complete.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their feedback will provide
invaluable insights into their experiences, so we can improve our district and help support their
individual needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a
question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. We are partnering with a third-party
vendor to support us in administering these surveys.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on their overall experience of school and their
perception of their own skills pertaining to Michigan’s competency areas of: self-awareness,
self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
Please notify us by Friday, March 29th if you would like your child to opt out of
taking the surveys by emailing Allison Lorenzoni. If you have any questions about
the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (906)779-2610 ext.
4815 or lorenzonia@imschools.org.
Sincerely,
Allison Lorenzoni

Congratulations to the Student of the Week!
Congratulations to the Daily News/Iron Mountain Student of the Week, junior Bryce Davis!
Bryce Davis is the son of Sara and Daniel Davis. He shows up for class and does what needs doing. He works hard, gets results, and sets a good example in the process. Whether running the 400 meter dash in track, setting blocks and making tackles on the football field, or casting lines for the elusive Walleye, he's using the same patience, determination, and consistency that he uses in the classroom. He is another in a fine tradition of Mountaineers. Bryce has perfect attendance thus far this school year and participates in Varsity Club, Varsity Football, and Track.
