Opt Out Important Information

Best Directory Opt Out:

Please note that we anticipate that the BEST will request directory information—including the student’s name, class assignment (for elementary schools), parent/guardian names, parent/guardian email addresses, and parent/guardian telephone—to be shared in a printed/online directory to facilitate connections between families.

If an eligible student and/or parent does not want Directory Information released, they must notify the Principal, in writing by September 19th and such information will not be released.

Technology Opt Out:

We use technology as tools for learning. Each Davis School classroom has a teacher workstation that is connected to the Internet. The instructor’s workstation allows the teacher to conduct lessons online and display material for students using an interactive whiteboard. We also have several multi-station computer labs, ipads and laptops in the building that are used by students and staff members for research and training.

Our technology curriculum guidelines specify that, along with basic mechanics of technology use, students will practice the ethics of technology. Students use devices to find information, to organize data and to solve problems. Careful monitoring and screening of all Internet sites used in the classroom is standard practice (See Appendix - Acceptable Use Policy)

Bedford Public Schools currently use and will continue to use Google Workspace for Education,

which includes essential educational tools, such as Classroom, Docs, and Drive. We also

provide access to some of Google’s Additional Services that enhance teaching and learning.

Google now requires parental consent for students under 18 to independently use any of their

Additional Services.

There are nine of Google’s Additional Services that students have access to as they support

differentiation, communication, collaboration and creativity while helping students to develop

research, critical thinking, literacy, digital literacy and information literacy skills. These Additional Services are Google Translate, Google Earth, Google Maps, Google My Maps, Google Books, Google Arts and Culture, YouTube, Google News and Google’s Applied Digital Skills. These interactive engaging tools are independently used by students to support various learning styles and needs; supplement and/or expand upon lessons and prior knowledge; deepen

understanding of content; make real-world connections to learning; and provide personalized

self-paced learning opportunities.

Families must opt out by sending an email to their school principal if they do not want their child to independently access these nine Additional Services. It is not feasible to have families pick and choose among these tools, so you will need to decide between consenting to all or none. Teachers can continue to utilize these tools as part of their instruction and can provide students access to some content for educational purposes.

Opt-outs must be received by September 19th, 2025 via email to Principal Colby.

Back To School Nights

Tuesday, September 30- Back to School Night - 1st and 2nd graders 6:00-6:45 (Students and caregiver!)

Thursday, October 9 - Back to School Night - Kindergarten and Preschool 6:00-6:45 (Students and caregiver)

Over the past couple of years we have tried to make our Back to School nights more informative and engaging.

This year we are asking you to come with your children and let them be the leaders to show you the spaces in which they are settling in! Throughout the fall we will share more information about curriculum and what to expect this year. During the Back to School Night, classrooms will have more information for you to see and learn about. Later we will have a more indepth opportunity to hear about our Literacy program.

Attendance at Davis

If your child is going to be out of school, or tardy, or dismissed, please remember to call our Attendance Line at 781-918-4965. You can leave a message on this line anytime, day or evening. Please call before 9am if your child will be absent on any given day and before 1:15pm if your child's dismissal is in need of change.

We have added an email address: davis_attendance@bedfordps.org as an option to report any absences or dismissal changes for your students

Required Forms for Volunteering

All adults (over 18 years of age) that are volunteering and/or visiting the school for programming must have a valid CORI, SORI, and signed confidentiality agreement on file before volunteering/visiting.

Starting 9/20/24, the district adopted a 3-year expiration for the CORI/SORI. If your last CORI/SORI was processed on 9/20/24 or after, it is valid for 3 years. If you submitted your most recent CORI/SORI before that date, you will need to fill out new forms this school year, and they will be valid for 3 years. You may call the Davis Office or email us to check if you have a valid CORI/SORI on file.

To be in full compliance with our HR Department and the State, all CORI/SORI forms MUST BE SUBMITTED in person, with a valid picture ID, ONLY by the person whose name appears on the form. Forms cannot be accepted via kid mail, email, or spouse, etc.

Please plan ahead and allow at least 1 week for processing, so that you don’t get stuck and are prohibited from volunteering.

Forms are applicable for all 4 schools in the district, so you only need to fill out forms at one school (i.e. if you fill out forms at Davis, you do not need to fill out forms at Lane).
