Viper Night, Wednesday, April 10th from 5:00 - 7:30 PM, is an opportunity for students to learn more about the different opportunities at Vandegrift, including AVID. We are very proud of the AVID Program which has supported freshmen each year with many remaining in the AVID elective through senior year. This program works with each student to promote high school success and preparation for college. As eighth graders transition into high school, the AVID elective is a wonderful option for those students desiring to develop their academic toolbelts in preparation for challenging high school coursework.
AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination, which is a college readiness elective course focusing on critical thinking, collaborative learning via twice-weekly tutorials, academic enrichment, organizational and study skills, and motivational activities. AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. For additional information, explore the following resources:

If interested in applying for the AVID elective, join the AVID Online Application Google Classroom which provides step-by-step directions. Students must access the Google classroom using their Leander ISD Gmail accounts. Join Code: pm4gxxt (Current 8th grade AVID students do not need to reapply.) Submit completed applications by Monday, April 22nd at 4:00 PM.
Although there are many wonderful and impactful programs available at VHS, we hope that AVID can be the right fit as students transition into high school. We look forward to seeing you at Viper Night!
