LOSD Annual Career Night & Job Fair a Success!

The cafeteria of Lakeridge High School was bursting on Tuesday evening filled to the brim with over 80 businesses eager to speak with students. A fair estimate would be 200+ students and their parents circled the booths to learn more about the different career opportunities.

We can hardly wait until next year!

Laker Talks, A Career Series

On Wednesday, April 19th, we will welcome Mark McLaughlin, Founder of Performance Training Center. Through his years of participation in sports and later in his education, Mark developed a deep commitment not just to sports but also to the complete well-being of the athlete. Mark has been active in the field of athletic performance enhancement since 1997 and has trained over 700 athletes on every competitive level ranging from Olympic, professional (NFL, MLB, NBA), college, high school and grade school athletes. Currently Mark is working for the Lake Oswego School district as a coach overseeing training programing and implementation at the high school level.

Make sure to sign up for support seminar on Wednesday, April 19th with Alves and be in the auditorium before 10 so we can make the most of our time!

A Word About Laker Talk CRLE Opportunity

Career-Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs) are structured educational experiences that connect learning to the world beyond the classroom. You need to complete two different learning experiences (minimum 5 hours each) by the end of senior year. Something to note about the two CRLEs is that one requires the performance evaluation on the back of the form to be completed by a supervisor/organizer/teacher and one does not. The Laker Talk CRLE opportunity would be a CRLE that does not require a completed performance evaluation. If you already have a CRLE on file that does not have the performance evaluation, the Laker Talks would not work as a second CRLE.

Even if you have fulfilled your CRLE requirements, I hope that you will attend if one of the many fantastic speakers we have lined up interests you.

Public vs. Private Public vs. Private

The main difference between public and private colleges/universities are where they receive their funding. Public colleges and universities are funded by the federal government while private institutions are supported by their own endowment funds and students' tuition fees. Though private colleges and universities have a more expensive price tag, they often offer generous financial aid packages to cut down on overall cost of attendance.

This article from US News breaks down the differences quite nicely.

Trade Highlight of the Month - Emergency Medical Technician Trade Highlight of the Month - Emergency Medical Technician

Emergency Medical Technicians(EMT) provide life-saving care to patients at the scene of an emergency and during transportation in an ambulance en route to a hospital. EMTs are qualified to assess critical illnesses and injuries, provide first aid treatment, and perform basic life-saving health care.
