3, 2, 1 Blast Off on our rocket ship!
Learning Unit
We've had a big week of traveling to space! The children created a blue print of a rocket ship and the teachers helped built it. After the design of the ship, we had to decorated it! It is a work in progress. Once the paint dries, the students will all add all the details. With watercolor paint, the students made galaxies! To give our galaxies some texture we added salt. The salt soaked up the water to have the colors blend and give the painting a bumpy texture.
Fundations
We've finished our first semester of fundations for letter and letter sounds. Now for our second semester we will be introducing letter formation, writing! The children will still review and practice letter sounds each day.

What belongs in space and what doesn't?
Small Group
This week we focus on understanding counting and cardinality from the CT ELDS. The students are building their skill of recognition of quantity of items and comparison of numbers. The students had to count using the cubes by filling the ten frames. Once they counted they had to color in the bubble with the right written number. We also included this week of measurement with sizes. The students had to identify the sizes of the rocket ships.

Second Step
This week we worked on naming our feelings. By simply naming a feeling can help make the feeling less strong, because it engages the thinking part. This is a helpful strategy for children when they are upset. The lesson concept taught the students by naming your feeling can help you calm down and it helps to talk to a grown-up when you feel scared or sad. The boy in the photo is naming his feeling and talking to his teacher.
