Birding Challenge Grades: Pre-K through 2nd
At my feeder, I have noticed the following birds so far:

Sparrow
Mourning dove
Oriole
Grackle
Goldfinch
Starlings
Red bellied woodpecker
Remember to notice the size, color, beak shape, and behavior of your birds and record that information!

STUDENT IDEAS FOR A BETTER AMERICA is a monthly contest open to students (grades K through 8 and 9 through 12) sponsored by the Partnership for America’s Future, a nonprofit organization that also sponsors the National Gallery for America’s Young Inventors. Students are asked to think only of an idea, not to create a model, for a new product or an improvement on an existing product. The goal is to encourage the learning, insight, creativity, and workmanship of America’s students and to demonstrate that valuable ideas can be created by America’s youths.
A. Get an idea!
1. Look for a problem to solve
2. Think about improving something that you already have
3. Think about the needs of others
4. Research to see if it’s been invented already
B. Make a Model
1. Start with a sketch
2. Make a list of materials
3. Lit your tools and helpers
4. Estimate costs
5. Make a scale model
C. Name Your Invention
