Walnut Creek Weekly Update - 5/29/26

Walnut Creek Learning Community,

We’re inching closer to summer vacation, but we still have a lot of important work to do at Creek before we wrap up our school year.

Parents, please continue to remind your students of both our high expectations that we have at school, and that you have at home. I’m incredibly proud of the work that our students have put into their academic and personal growth this year, and I want nothing more than for every single one of our students to end our school year on a positive note. Please remind your kids daily that we will hold each of our students accountable for their actions. I often say that life is all about choices and consequences - please remind your kids to continue to make choices that lead to positive consequences rather than negative ones.

Thank you for your continued support! Go Hawks!

8th Grade Students NOT attending Washington DC - NEW INFO

The following information was sent home on 5/28/26:

Dear 8th Grade Parents and Guardians,

As you know, our 8th grade Washington DC trip is taking place next week on Wednesday, June 3rd - Friday, June 5th. I am writing to provide you with important information regarding school operations during this time for those who will not be traveling with us.

A majority of our 8th-grade students, along with nearly all of our 8th-grade teachers, will be attending the trip. Due to this, our standard 8th-grade class operations will be significantly disrupted.

Please note that historically, very few students choose to attend school if they are not participating in the DC trip.

For 8th-grade students who are not attending the trip but choose to come to school, please be aware of the following changes:

  • Alternate Schedule: Students will not follow their standard class schedule. Instead, they will be divided into groups and will receive an alternate schedule for the three days.

  • Supervision: Students will be supervised by Walnut Creek teachers who are not attending the trip; however, these will likely not be your student’s normal teachers.

  • Virtual Experience: Students in school will be expected to complete a "virtual Washington DC experience." This alternate curriculum is designed to take several days to complete.

If you decide to keep your student home while the trip is taking place, they will receive excused absences. Please be assured that these days will not count toward school truancy, nor will they have any other negative impact on your student's attendance record or standing.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we accommodate this exciting educational experience for our 8th graders.

2027 Washington DC Parent Meeting (for current 7th grade families) - NEW INFO

I hope this email finds you well! We’re looking forward to another fantastic 8th grade trip to Washington DC next school year. Please see the information below regarding our parent informational meeting that we will host on June 9th at 6:00 PM in the Creek Cafeteria.

2027 Washington DC Trip Informational Meeting - NEW INFO

For our current 7th grade students that are interested in participating in the 2027 8th Grade Washington DC trip, we will host an informational meeting on June 9th, from 6:00- 6:30 PM in the cafeteria. The 8th grade Washington DC trip is a phenomenal experience and opportunity for our students. I look forward to seeing all our current 7th grade parents at the meeting!

If you are unable to attend the meeting, we will email the information that is shared to all parents along with a registration link.

8th Grade Year-End Activities - Previously Communicated

Thank you to the families that donated unneeded ceremony tickets back to the school for redistribution. At this time, all families have been contacted if we were/were not able to accommodate your requests. We do not have any additional tickets to distribute at this time.

As a reminder the 8th grade ceremony is a STRICTLY ticketed event. Anyone that arrives without a ticket will not be permitted to enter the ceremony. We will have officers from both Oakland County and West Bloomfield on scene to help us manage the entry process. Respectfully, we ask that no parent put us or themselves into the situation of being turned away at the door of our 8th grade ceremony by showing up without a ticket and/or bringing extra family members without a ticket. We will live stream the event for family members that are not able to attend.

Tickets will be distributed to students at the REQUIRED ceremony rehearsal on June 8th.

Monday, June 8th - 1:00 - 3:00 PM:

8th Grade Ceremony Rehearsal

  • Required for all students planning to attend the 8th grade Ceremony

Tuesday, June 9th - 9:30 - 10:45 AM:

8th Grade Ceremony:

  • Each student will receive THREE tickets during the Rehearsal on June 8th. Due to the capacity of our gym, the 8th Grade Ceremony is a strictly ticketed event.
  • Our bleachers have an approximate capacity of 925 - with 311 8th grade students, we can only accommodate three family members per student. Any family member that arrives without a ticket will not be permitted to enter the gym. PLEASE do not put us or yourself into the situation of having to be turned away at the door!
  • The ceremony will be live streamed for any family member that would like to watch the event from home.
  • Traditionally, students leave with their parents after the event. Students are permitted to stay for the day if they choose, but we've never had more than a couple of students remain at Creek after the ceremony.

Wednesday, June 10th - 11:40 AM:

  • 8th Grade Clap out:

    • More information will be shared as we approach the last day of school. Parents will be invited to meet their students in the East Courtyard (Gym side) as they are clapped out of the school by our 6th and 7th grade students.

Below is the email that was sent on 5/21/26:

As we approach the end of the school year, we are excited to celebrate our 8th graders and all of their accomplishments! We have two wonderful events planned to send them off to high school, but we need your help to make them a success.

Please mark your calendars for:

  • 8th Grade Celebration: Monday, June 8th
  • 8th Grade Breakfast: Tuesday, June 9th

We are looking for volunteers to help on both days, as well as food items and monetary donations to cover event costs.
