Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings Hembree Families,
A Strong Start to the School Year
We’ve had a fantastic first week! Students settled in quickly, and our new Hembree Hawks are learning their way around. Thank you to all the parents who joined us in the building—it was wonderful to see you walking your children to class.
Morning Drop-Off Reminder
Starting Monday, August 11, parents will no longer be able to walk students to class. Please:
- Use the carpool line or drop off at the front door.
- If parking and walking your child to the entrance, use a designated parking spot.
- Avoid double parking in front of the school—it blocks traffic and causes delays.
- Remember: the lower lot has plenty of available spaces.
Thanks for helping us keep mornings safe and smooth!
Attendance Matters
Improving attendance is a top priority this year. Last year, we didn’t meet our attendance goals, and this affects our school’s report card.
This week (Tuesday–Friday), we’ve already had:
- 53 absences
- 33 tardies
We understand that illness happens, but please prioritize attendance when possible and plan vacations around school breaks. Every day counts!
Code of Conduct Sign-Off
Thank you to families who signed the Code of Conduct at Open House. The district also requires a digital sign-off in Infinite Campus.
Please log in and complete this under the Documents tab.
Device Protection Plan
The district is offering a recommended protection plan for student devices. Learn more by reviewing the Student Device FAQs 2025–26 below.
August Diagnostic Assessments: Partnering for Student Success
As we begin the school year, August will be a key time for gathering diagnostic data to better understand where our students are academically. These assessments help us identify current skill levels and allow us to tailor instruction to meet the unique needs of every learner.
Our iReady screenings will begin on Tuesday, August 12th with Reading, followed by Math on Tuesday, August 19th.
To help your child do their best, please ensure they arrive at school on time and well-rested. Your support makes a big difference—thank you for partnering with us to set the stage for a successful year!
Back-to-School Picnic

PTA Earns School of Excellence Distinction
Hembree Springs Elementary PTA is proud to be named a 2024-2026 National PTA School of Excellence!
HSES was one of 14 Georgia schools and 330 U.S. schools given this designation, announced by the National Parent Teacher Association Tuesday.
School of Excellence recognizes PTA and the school as an example of how strong, effective family-school partnerships enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students, which is more important than ever!
We Need You, Dads!
We would love your SUPPORT! We are looking for adult male role models to volunteer as a Dad’s Club Mentor, serving as a group mentor to our Hawks boys in grades 3rd-5th.
The purpose of the Dad’s Club program is to provide students with an additional adult who will encourage them to feel good about themselves, make positive choices, positively connect with one another, and give back through various actions of helping others!
The mentors will meet as a group with the boys every Friday before school from 7:10-7:40 am. It’s okay if you’re not available every Friday. Any time that you have is greatly appreciated!
If interested or if you have additional questions, please reach out to Shannon Reynolds (School Counselor) at 470-254-9456 or reynoldssn@fultonschools.org.
Thank you for your support!

Why Join PTA?
Whether you're a parent, a grandparent, a guardian, a teacher or school staff — your voice matters. The Parent-Teacher Association isn't just a fundraising group. It's a powerful network that connects families and educators to support students in real, meaningful ways.
Here’s why you should join:
Stay Informed: Want to know what’s really going on in school? PTA members get inside access to upcoming events, school policies, and issues that matter most.
Have a Voice: Joining the PTA means you have a seat at the table when decisions are being discussed that affect your child’s education and experience.
Make a Difference: Whether you can give 1 hour or 10, your involvement — big or small — helps create a better school environment for every child. We want to emphasize, joining PTA doesn't mean you have to volunteer! It is just a great way to support your school and foster a sense of community with membership.
PTA Will Buy Your School Supplies
Parents, say goodbye to back-to-school chaos and hello to summer peace!
For just $65 per student, you can:
✅ Skip the stressful school supply scavenger hunt
✅ Get exactly what your child’s teacher requested
✅ Avoid crowded aisles, tantrums, and barcode confusion
✅ Support your school — it’s a PTA fundraiser!
Instead of ordering from third-party supply kit companies, our PTA is taking care of everything. We’ll stock the teacher workroom with supplies from each grade’s list and continue replenishing throughout the year. Since supplies are shared in classrooms, this approach makes even more sense!
This is our second year running this program, and thanks to your support, last year was a huge success — so we’re bringing it back!

Join the Copy Team – A Meaningful Way to Support Our Teachers!
Looking for an easy and rewarding way to help out at school? The Copy Team needs you! Volunteers make classroom copies for our teachers—saving them valuable time and making a real difference each week.
Here’s how it works:
· You’ll be assigned one day a week to stop by the school anytime during school hours.
· You’ll complete the copy requests left for that day—independent work that fits into your schedule.
· A short training will be provided to get you comfortable with the copiers and process.
As a bonus, many of our volunteers enjoy chatting with teachers and staff while in the copy room—it’s a great way to feel connected and get to know the heart of our school community. This is a school year long commitment, and your efforts are truly appreciated by all the staff.
Interested? Contact Julie Burnley at jkburnley@gmail.com to sign up or get more information.
Family Engagement Thursdays
Families! YOU are your child’s first and most influential teacher. As such you have so much to offer your student! To encourage family engagement at home, we are offering family engagement Thursdays. Each week there will be (1) activity to do at home to be completed prior to Friday. We’ll list the activities for the month in Hembree Highlights and offer reminders via social media. Your student will have the opportunity to receive a *bonus* Hawk’s ticket for participating (look out for more details from your teacher) We’ll include tips and tricks to get the conversation started and reinforce learning from the school day. Please spend anywhere from 10-20 minutes with your child engaging with them around their day at school and encouraging their social and emotional skills. We’ll also encourage you to practice other skills inclusive of Math and ELA. Please feel free to reach out to me Lucy Gilbert, Title I Parent Liaison (gilbertl2@fultonschools.org) with any questions.
Del Título I
Jueves de Participación Familiar
¡Familias!
Beanstack Reading App
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
