Middleton Update
February 13, 2025
Dear Middleton Families,
Happy snow day! It's rare that we actually hope it doesn't snow, but we know some fifth graders may have been a bit disappointed to miss school today, as they've been working so hard to prepare for their field trip to Biztown. SORRY 5th graders! Please know that our fifth grade teachers are already working on rescheduling this. We'll get the fifth graders there as soon as possible!
Congrats to the following eight fifth graders who have been selected to participate in the OMEA (Oregon Music Educators Association) District 14 Honor Choir: Courtney Stubblefield, Reagan Carroll, Nora Harwell, Ellie Ramos, Emma Onstot, Olivia Gerber, Laura Kalafut, and Karsyn Grosshans.
Next week is a BUSY week at Middleton: Food Drive, OBOB & the Horseshoe Hop! Please see details and information below.
Enjoy the snow!

OBOB
It's that time of year again! 20 teams of students (grades 3 through 5) have been diligently reading over the past few months to prepare for their book battles. And battles finally begin next Tuesday after school! (If your child is participating in OBOB and you don't know their battle times, check with your child's OBOB coach.) All teams will battle twice after school on Tuesday. Bracket play ("Sweet 16") will begin on Wednesday during the day between 8:00 and 11:30. The "Elite 8" and "Final 4" will battle on Thursday between 12:00 and 2:00. And our final battle between the top two teams will take place on Friday afternoon at 1:30. Because battle times each day will be based on wins and losses the day before, coaches will communicate times to students and parents. Good luck readers!

All Things Kindergarten!
Kindergarten Open House
Do you have a student starting Kindergarten in the 25-26 school year? If so, please join us at our Kindergarten Open House on March 13 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. At this event, you and your incoming kindergartener will get to complete some fun activities, see our classrooms and meet our kindergarten teachers, and tour the school! We look forward to seeing you there!
Kindergarten Registration
Registration for 2025-2026 kindergarten students is now open! CLICK HERE to register. Incoming Kindergarten students must turn 5 prior to September 1. Registering early helps the school and district start planning for the fall.
During online registration, new families will create a Sherwood ParentVUE account. Parents of current and former Sherwood students will log in with their existing ParentVUE account. Please call the Middleton front office at 503-825-5300 if you have any questions.
Families are also welcome to register using paper registration. Paper registration packets can be picked up from the Middleton front office.
If you know a family who will have a kindergartener at Middleton in the fall but is not yet a part of our school community, please pass along this information.
Horseshoe Hop
Volunteers are needed to help us with one of the most fun nights at Middleton, our Horseshoe Hop on Friday, February 21st, from 6:00-7:30. Please click on the link here to see how you can help!
Get ready to light up the night at our Neon-Themed Dance Party. Bring the whole family along for an unforgettable evening! Revel in the beats spun by our DJ, capture memories in the photo booth, and light up the night with fun glow accessories. Pizza and cotton candy will be available for purchase. **ALL STUDENTS/KIDS MUST HAVE AN ADULT PRESENT WITH THEM**
Due to your overwhelming support for this year's Fun Run, the annual Horseshoe Hop is FREE to all Middleton Families. However, you are welcome to bring a non-perishable item to help wrap up and support our food drive.
Food Drive
It is time for our annual Ducks vs. Beavers Food Drive benefiting The Helping Hands Food Pantry. Donations will be collected from Tuesday, February 18th - Friday, February 21st. To support our efforts please bring in unexpired, non-perishable food and personal hygiene items to "VOTE" for the Ducks or Beavers by placing your items in the appropriate team's box. Donations will be collected throughout school hours and at the Horseshoe Hop. While all donations are appreciated, some suggestions include:
- Tuesday - canned food items (fruits, vegetables, proteins and soups)
- Wednesday - pastas, cereals and other grains
- Thursday - pantry staples, baking mixes
- Friday - personal hygiene, baby items, kid snacks
