A Message From Mr. Longacre...
WIS Family,
As principal, I am continuously impressed by the time, energy, and care our WIS staff puts into helping every student succeed. We are fortunate to have an incredibly dedicated and talented team of educators who consistently go above and beyond for our students and families. Their passion makes WIS a place where children feel valued, supported, and excited to learn.
Throughout this week, we will be celebrating all of our teachers and staff … Their impact extends far beyond the classroom, and this is a meaningful time to recognize their efforts.
I encourage you and your child to take a moment to thank a current or former teacher who has made a difference. A simple note or kind word can mean so much. Thank you for your continued support in making WIS such a special place to learn and grow.
**The call out meeting for incoming 7th and 8th graders volleyball players will be on Thursday, May 8, morning at 8:15 am in Mrs. Johnson's room. **
Respectfully,
Mr. Longacre
Attendance Matters At WIS

See Below For Instructions On How To Report An Absence:
When needing to report a student absence, parents/guardians should call (219-983-3710) or email (mkowalecki@duneland.k12.in.us) the attendance secretary in the WIS office by 9:00 am on the day of the absence. If the school sends a student home early, then no notification is required.
Attention Incoming 6th Graders:
Immunization requirements prior to the start of 6th grade
The State of Indiana requires 6th grade students to be immunized with Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccine) and Meningitis vaccine. The Tdap and Meningitis vaccines must be received after the student turns 11 years of age and not before, to be considered valid.
On Thursday, February 20th 2025, your student was sent home with an envelope containing a letter indicating what immunizations your child needs before 6th grade and a copy of the most current immunization record the school has on file for your child. In the letter coming home, the vaccinations your student needs are highlighted and written in. Please make your appointment with your physician or health department as soon as possible to get started on this process.
If your student is 11 years old and has already received these immunizations please turn them in or email a scanned copy to the school nurse. You do not not need to wait until next school year.
Please contact Mrs. Sosby, WIMS School Nurse at 219-983-3710 or email tsosby@duneland.K12.in.us with any questions or concerns covered in this message.
Thank You Nurse Sosby!
On Wednesday, May 7 the district will celebrate National School Nurse Day. This has been set aside to recognize school nurses and to thank them for all that they do for our students. National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting.
