MAP Testing Continues This Week (All 3rd-8th Graders)

The annual Missouri MAP tests continue this week with all 3rd through 8th graders taking the ELA portions of the test. We kindly ask that you plan ahead to ensure your child gets a good night's sleep each night and arrives at school on time each morning. Testing sessions will begin promptly at 8:30.

Week of April 20th - ELA (All 3rd-8th graders)

Week of April 27th - Math (All 3rd-8th graders)

In order to maintain a focused testing environment, students are not allowed to bring cell phones or smart watches into the classroom during testing. Please remind your child to leave these items at home or to speak with a teacher about securely storing them during the assessment.

If you have not yet completed the encouragement letter for your 3rd-8th grader, please drop it off at the front desk today! You can reach out to Ms. Roland with any questions about MAP testing or letters for students.

Final Citizens of the World Friday Morning Sing - May 1st

As we look ahead to our rebranding this spring, we’re also celebrating the first 10 years of our school as Citizens of the World, as well as the traditions that have shaped our community and culture. Friday Morning Sing began as a full-school assembly where students, staff, and families gathered each week to connect and celebrate together, and it remains an important part of our elementary school program today.

To mark our 10th anniversary, we’re making this tradition a little more special. We can think of no better way to celebrate than with an extended, full-school Friday Morning Sing for all K-8 students, families and staff - our last as Citizens of the World! We’ll be welcoming back some of our founding families and staff to join us, too!

Please plan to join us on Friday, May 1st from 8–10 am. More information to come!

Staff & Teacher Appreciation Week - May 4th-8th

Please help us celebrate our Teachers & Staff and all they do for our school community. During the week of May 4th-8th, we’ll be treating staff to a week of meals, snacks, and thoughtful surprises to show just how much they’re valued.

To kick things off, we’ll celebrate Blooms for Buddies on Monday, May 4th! This special day invites students to share flowers with teachers and staff members who have made a meaningful impact. Whether it’s a handmade flower craft, a bloom from your home garden, or one picked up from a store like Aldi or Costco, it’s the thought that counts, and every petal spreads appreciation! Handwritten notes from students and families are always appreciated, as well!

We are also asking for donations of snacks, drinks, and/or goodies. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and will help make the week special. Please drop off snack donations at the front desk by Friday, May 1st.

Night on Broadway - Thursday, May 14th

Please save the date for this year's Night on Broadway on Thursday, May 14th at 6 pm! This year we will be holding the event a few blocks away at Kansas City Young Audiences (3732 Main Street), and it will feature an art show, choir concert, majorette performance, one-act play, and parent vs. student debates in both English and Spanish. We also have a few other surprises in the works! More info coming soon!

2026-2027 Enrollment

The re-enrollment period has now ended, and students' spots for next year are no longer guaranteed. Re-enrollment through your Parent Portal will still be available if there is not a waitlist in your child's grade, and you can find instructions for completing re-enrollment by visiting the Re-Enrollment page of the CWCKC website.

If your family will not be returning for the 2026-2027 school year or if your plans have changed, please email Ms. Lineberry or text/call her at 816-550-5276 with this information, as we are required to account for every student's intentions for next year.

Offers for next year are already being sent out to newly enrolling students! If you are interested in enrolling a sibling who will be a NEW STUDENT at Citizens next year, please be sure to complete a SchoolAppKC application soon to secure their seat for next year! Don't forget to add your current student's name on the sibling question so that sibling priority is applied!

If you have any questions, please contact Katy Lineberry right away.

April Board Meeting Summary

Here are some highlights from the April meeting of the Board of Directors:

  • The board was introduced to Ms. Stephanie Moore, our board pick from the BlaqueKC draft last week. She has extensive experience in marketing and communications, has served on many area boards and teams, and is a published author. The board will vote to confirm her at the May board meeting.
  • We are still in the process of finalizing our charter renewal with KCPS. Everything is running smoothly.
  • We continue to forecast a strong cash balance for the end of the fiscal year, which is currently expected to be the equivalent to 74 days of cash.
  • Regarding enrollment, we continue to have a strong acceptance rate, although applications are low throughout the city as we continue to experience the results of the low birthrate. We do not currently have waitlists for any grade at the Broadway building.

Members of the community are always welcome at monthly board meetings. Board meeting Zoom links, agendas, minutes, and other materials are available on the new Board of Directors Materials Public Portal!
