This & That
Culver's Night: This Friday's home game is sponsored by Culver's!
- We will have t-shirts and Culver's plushies to give away for the first 100 or so to get into the game.
- We will give out free custard scoops and free curd coupons at the game.
- After the game, we are giving anyone with a Maize South student ID a FREE single butter burger! This complements the free scoops of custard and curds nicely.
- We are going to stay open until 11pm to ensure everyone has enough time to stop by, even the players.
Tardies: It's not enough to be on campus. We need you in class by the time the bell rings, and not a second late! Last year, from 8/19/25 - 10/9/25, we had 181 tardies. This year, from 8/18/26 - 10/8/26, we've had 443 tardies. Mavs, we have to do better. Raise the standard.
Parent/ Teacher Conferences
Oct. 14 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Oct 15 from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
Parent/ Teacher conferences are crucial for establishing a partnership between home and school. They also foster improved academic achievement, motivation, and behavior. I STRONGLY encourage students to attend these conferences so that they can take ownership of their learning. We hope to see you there!
Questions to ask your student's teacher during Parent/ Teacher conferences:
- What are my child's biggest strengths and challenges in your class?
- What are the key skills my child needs to master this year?
- Does my child seem engaged, and are they reaching their potential?
- How does my child interact with their peers and with you?
- What can I do at home to support my child's learning and address any concerns?
- How is my child's IEP or 504 plan being implemented in the classroom?
- Is my gifted child getting the enrichment opportunities they need?

Alternate Schedule October 19th
Monday, Oct. 19, 2026 will have an alternate school day schedule for high school students in grades 9 through 12 as follows:
Sophomores (grade 10) and seniors (grade 12) will not have school, including classes at the Maize Career Academy, on Oct. 19, 2026. WSU Tech classes will still take place at National Center for Aviation Training (NCAT), City Center, and WSU Tech South campuses for seniors enrolled in block program courses. Students enrolled in Shocker Academy courses will attend their Shocker Academy classes Oct. 19.
Freshmen (grade 9) and juniors (grade 11) will attend school for a half day for testing. School will start in the morning as normally scheduled, with a grab-and-go lunch option at 11:40 a.m. and bus dismissal at noon. School transportation home will be provided at noon for those who typically ride the school bus home. Students will not be able to stay at school in the afternoon, as teachers will have their own professional development.
Freshmen (grade 9) will take the Pre-ACT 8/9. This assessment gives students an early measure of college and career readiness while providing performance predictions and instructional support. Click here for more Pre-ACT 8/9 information.
Juniors (grade 10) will take the ACT WorkKeys Career Assessment, which measures skills that lead to success in the workplace and are linked to job performance. For more information about ACT WorkKeys, please click here.
