Budget Committee News
Dear Coupeville School District Families,
I am writing to update you on the important work of our District Budget Committee, which began meeting in January. This committee, comprising 30 dedicated members including staff, parents, students, and community representatives, has been diligently working to understand and analyze our district's financial landscape.
Over the past several meetings, we have focused on several key areas:
- Understanding Washington State's School Funding Model: Our committee has undertaken a comprehensive review of the state prototypical funding model, which determines how schools receive their base funding. This knowledge is crucial for understanding both our opportunities and constraints as a district. Key takeaway-this is a funding model, not a staffing model.
- Analyzing Coupeville's Specific Financial Picture: We have been examining how our district utilizes its funds to support student learning and maintain our facilities. This analysis helps us ensure we are maximizing every dollar for our students' benefit.
To promote transparency and facilitate community engagement, we have created a dedicated website that includes:
- Questions raised during our meetings and their answers
- Presentation slides from each session
- Important links to additional funding information
- Resources for further learning about school finance
I encourage you to visit our website and explore these materials. Understanding school funding can be complex, but it's vital for our community to be well-informed as we work together to support our students' education.
The committee's work represents a collaborative effort to ensure our district's financial decisions align with our educational goals and community values. Your engagement in this process is valuable, and we welcome your questions and input.
Sincerely,
Shannon Leatherwood,
Superintendent Coupeville School District
Elementary Principal Survey
Please Take Survey!
Dear Coupeville Elementary Families and Community Members,
As you know, our elementary school has undergone leadership changes this school year following Mr. Dave Ebersole's retirement in October 2024. We are grateful to Mrs. McColl for stepping in as interim principal, transitioning from her role as MSHS Assistant Principal to ensure continuity of leadership at our elementary school.
As we look ahead to the 2025-26 school year, we are beginning our search for a permanent elementary school principal. Community input is vital in this process, and we value your thoughts and perspectives on the qualities, experience, and vision you'd like to see in our next school leader.
Please take a few moments to complete this survey below. Your feedback will help inform our selection process as we work to find the best leader for our students, staff, and community.
Please complete your input by March 7, 2025.This data will be used by the hiring committee to help inform the selection process and ensure our next principal meets the needs of our school community.
Thank you,
Shannon Leatherwood
