Principal's Corner Principal's Corner

Dear BFPP Families,

Happy Spring Break! I hope you have a wonderful break with time for family and fun. I am looking forward to some quiet local adventures. Nothing quite compares to the PNW in the spring. When we return, we will be on the final stretch of the 2024-25 academic year. Lots happening! Including some planning for next year. Below are several opportunities to participate in the planning, a survey and Thought Partner meeting. Please, join us and share your voice!

As you know, we use a variety of tools to stay connected to the needs and values of our diverse community. One of these tools is a survey like this that helps gather input, field ideas, direct our curiosities and check our assumptions about how we all partner to support the learning of the WHOLE community. The information generated from this form will really shape how we approach our partnership models into next year. Our suggestion is to gather your family, a snack and refreshment, and take 15-20 minutes to reflect on what you'd like to engage with in the year ahead.

You can fill out the survey here: https://forms.office.com/r/1y6j00p7dv

In partnership and appreciation,

Dr. Kate

Looking Ahead to May Looking Ahead to May

First Tuesday Parent Book Club

May 6th from 11-12pm in the BFPP library

Led by Brooke Wertz (teacher at BFPP) & Gretchen Anderson (parent at BFPP).

This is an open format book club with the adult reader in mind. We may/may not choose to read some of the same titles and we will definitely share recommendations. Let’s create community

through a shared appreciation of book love! Bring a mug of your favorite drink. We’re excited to see you!

High School Informational Meeting and Panel

May 6th, 12:30-2pm

Curious about high school home learning support at BFPP…..We are continuing with year two of our pilot and will be supporting some BFPP students as they enter into high school (9th and 10th graders). Come hear more about what that looks like from current families and students. We will also bring in some panelists to help with other questions and program information.

Sturdy Parenting Workshop

Tuesday, May 13th at 12:30-2pm

This workshop series welcomes any adults who are curious about building community and finding tools to balance setting boundaries while communicating empathy. We will again delve into the research of Dr. Becky Kennedy, clinical psychologist and author of Good Inside: A Guide to Becoming the Parent You Want To Be. Join us! And come with a sense of camaraderie and a willingness to explore and connect. Come with some thoughts about this Dr. Becky nugget: The role of a sturdy parent is to: “acknowledge, validate, permit.” And for those of you who haven’t yet listened to Dr. Becky on the Huberman Lab (this podcast is our primary resource), listen to it here. Please RSVP Erin or just show up!

Homeschoolers from all over Whatcom County gather at different parks every Wednesday throughout the year for some fun and socializing! There’s no official start time, but most families arrive by 3 PM and stay until 5 PM. If you don’t see us right away, no worries—we’ll be there! Some parks can be busy, so it might take a moment to spot the group. Parents typically hang out by the picnic tables, while the kids enjoy the playground or run around the open spaces.
