February 2, 2026

Dear Dr. Green Elementary Families,

Thank you to all of our families who attended Math Night. Our teachers and students were excited to see your participation and engagement—it was a wonderful evening of learning and collaboration.

As we welcome the month of February, we are also entering a period of focused instruction, strengthened interventions, and a shared mission of preparing for a successful testing season. Your continued support during this time is greatly appreciated.

Please note that this Tuesday, February 3, will be an early dismissal day for students. Dismissal will take place at 12:00 p.m., and we ask that parents make arrangements for timely pick-up. The early release is due to Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher to secure a meeting time.

In addition to our Wednesday after-school clubs, we are excited to offer two tutoring opportunities effective this week:

• Afterschool Tutoring – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for all grade levels. Please consult your child’s teacher for additional details. The first session is scheduled this Thursday, February 5h.

• Saturday Tutoring – Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for third, fourth and fifth grade students. The first session is scheduled for this Saturday, February 7th.

Students will be invited to participate in tutoring based on specific academic criteria. Teachers will provide families with more information as needed. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support as we work together to ensure student success.

Attendance Matters:

Thank you parents! In the past week, our school attendance rate increased to 93%. Our campus goal is to maintain the percentage above 94%, let's keep working on a continuous improvement. Attending school offers many important benefits for children’s academic, social, and emotional development as follows:

Academic growth

  • Builds strong foundations in reading, writing, and math

  • Develops problem-solving, critical thinking, and study habits

  • Introduces science, social studies, art, and technology concepts early

Social development

  • Teaches children how to work and play with others

  • Builds communication skills (listening, sharing, taking turns)

  • Helps children learn empathy, respect, and cooperation

Emotional growth

  • Encourages independence and confidence

  • Helps children learn to manage emotions and routines

  • Provides support from teachers and counselors

Please report any absences via email explaining the reason for the absence to: green_notes@episd.org

Panorama Family Survey:

El Paso ISD has partnered with Panorama Education, a national leader in fostering school and community partnerships. According to Panorama's extensive research, when schools successfully engage families, students earn higher grades, score higher on tests, and develop better social skills.
Panorama safeguards your privacy, keeping your responses confidential. The survey shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to complete, and will be a valuable source of information for us as we work to make our schools and district as good as they can be.

Dates: The survey will be open Jan 20- Feb 13, 2026.

Survey Link: You can take the survey by clicking here using a computer, tablet, or smartphone by visiting the link: Panorama Family Survey. We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us at strategyevaluation@episd.org.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

  • Tuesday, February 3- Parent Teacher Conferences. Early dismissal @ 12:00 pm.
  • Wednesday, February 11-Early dismissal for students. Teachers will be attending Professional Development in the afternoon.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making Dr. Green a great school to be. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with ideas, suggestions or any concerns you may have.

Hello Dr. Green Families!
It is hard to believe we just finished 100 days of school. We have had a successful year thus far! I’m excited to continue supporting our students as they grow into confident readers and mathematicians. Your partnership at home plays a huge role in their success, and I appreciate all you do to encourage learning beyond the school day.

🔢 Math Practice at Home

Building strong math fact fluency helps students solve problems more quickly and with greater confidence. Here are some helpful and fun ways to practice at home:

Ways to Support Math Fluency

  • Flashcards Practice
Spend 5–10 minutes reviewing addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts.

  • Math Games & Apps
Try tools like XtraMath, Khan Academy, or Prodigy to make practice fun and interactive.

  • Real-Life Math
Let students help count money, measure ingredients, tell time, or compare prices while shopping.

  • Timed Practice Challenges
Set a one-minute timer and see how many math facts your child can solve—celebrate improvement!

📚 Reading Fluency at Home

Daily reading is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen fluency, comprehension, and overall confidence.

Ways to Support Reading Fluency

  • Read 15–20 Minutes Daily
Students can read independently, aloud to an adult, or listen to an adult read.

  • Echo Reading
Read a sentence or short passage first; have your child repeat it with similar expression and pacing.

  • Repeated Reading
Have your child reread a short text 2–3 times to build accuracy and smoothness.

  • Talk About the Story
Ask questions about the characters, setting, or events to reinforce comprehension.

Thank you for your continuous support and dedication to your child’s learning. Together, we help our students grow, succeed, and shine every day! - Mrs. Sims 🌟

The Core Value for February is: Respect – Showing others they are important by what you say and do.

SAY IT:

Respect: Showing others they are important by what you say and do

KNOW IT:

ASK A GROWN-UP:

• How are some ways you show respect to people at work or in the community?

• How does it make you feel when people show you respect?

ASK A KID:

• How can you show respect to teachers at school?

• How can you show respect to other students at school?

SEE IT:

Most of us have seen what happens when we fail to show respect to people in authority or our peers. We have either experienced it ourselves or seen others who were not respectful. In the story The Boy Who Always Talks Back we see the consequences of choosing not to show respect. Through this story, the main character Max, learns what it means to have respect, but also grows to understand the benefits of being respectful to those around him. Take a few minutes and watch this video and see the valuable lessons Max learns as he understands how and why to have respect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG3arGjg0Hk

BE IT:

Set a family goal to always try to have respect for each other. Give each other permission to talk about times when you feel disrespected or when you find it difficult to show respect. Be creative and write your own short story about a student who is struggling with respect. What lessons can he/she learn about the benefits of showing others they ar e important by what they say and do?
