Digital Learning Day
Resources and Reminders for Families
2026-2027 Digital Learning Days
GCPS Digital Learning Days are scheduled for Sept. 18, Nov. 3, and March 19 for the 2026-2027 school year. On Digital Learning Days, all students will learn from home, completing work assigned by their teachers. This newsletter provides you with some guidance and reminders as you prepare for DLD.
Student Devices
Each student at Dyer has a Chromebook checked out to them. This device is available to be brought home to use on DLDs. If your child has a personal device at home to use, they do not have to bring home their school-issued device. Teachers have posted a form on ParentSquare that you will use to indicate whether or not your child needs to bring their Chromebook home.
Your child's GCPS Chromebook should come home with a full or almost full battery charge. This is more than enough power to get them through the work required for a DLD. However, playing games and watching videos before the DLD will QUICKLY run a battery down. Please help your child understand the need to preserve the battery life of their Chromebook before the DLD and save the games and videos for another device or for after their DLD work is completed.
Device Care
Students are expected to take care of their GCPS issued device while at school and at home. Students have been taught Chromebook expectations at school and they are expected to follow these when using their computers at home.
- Always use two hands when carrying your device from one location to the next. Never grab the device by the screen.
- Make sure to keep all food, drinks, liquids, and candy away from the device.
- Keep the device on a hard, solid surface like a table to desk.
- Keep device within the residence of the student. The device should not be taken on trips or to travel destinations.
- Nothing should be placed on top of the device.
- When closing the device, nothing should be between the screen and keyboard.
Student Password Reset Instructions
If your child has forgotten their password, you must contact their teacher to reset it. Be reminded that teacher work hours are 7:35-3:30. Once the teacher resets the password, follow the steps outlined in the grade appropriate guides below.
Accessing Google on Non-GCPS Issued Devices
In order to protect student information, GCPS does not allow outside accounts access to the GCPS Google domain. If you are receiving an error message when trying to have your child login to their Google Drive or Google Classroom, it is most likely due to a personal account interfering with the process. In order to access your child's GCPS Google account, you will need to add your child's account to your existing Chrome profile or change the Chrome browser user. Directions for these are below.
