Summer School: Build a Tiny House: (Information only) CalAPS has been awarded a $68,000 grant from Harbor Freight Tools to fund our "Build a Tiny Home" course which will be taught at Mayfair High School this summer. This grant provides a significant opportunity for our students to gain practical, hands-on experience in the growing field of tiny home construction. To qualify for the program, students must be in high school and have completed a construction, makerspace, or PLTW Engineering/Architecture course prior to applying. This ensures that they have the foundational skills necessary for the program. Students from any of our partnering districts can apply - Bellflower USD, Paramount USD, and Lynwood USD. Additionally, the course has been approved as an "a-g" elective under the "g" category. We believe this program offers a fantastic opportunity for students to develop practical skills in design, construction, and problem-solving. If you have students who are interested, please share this information with them and encourage them to apply. Deadline to apply is May 15th.

Space is limited to 20 students. Students will receive a student scholarship (uo to $1120) upon successful completion of the course. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted if they have been selected to participate. Course will be taught June 10-July 10 (holidays: June 19, July 4 and July 5); 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. Link to application is below.

Dear Parents and Students,

As we find ourselves swiftly approaching the end of another school year, it’s essential to reflect on the journey we’ve embarked upon together and to set our sights on finishing strong. The final stretch of the academic year presents us with opportunities to demonstrate our commitment to excellence, not just academically, but also in our behavior and attendance. It’s these last steps that often define our achievements and leave a lasting impression.

Behavior is the cornerstone of a positive learning environment. It shapes the atmosphere of our classrooms and influences the experiences of every student. As we near the end of the year, let’s reaffirm our dedication to respect, kindness, and responsibility. Each interaction, whether with peers, teachers, or staff, contributes to the culture we cultivate within our school community. Let’s ensure that every action reflects our shared values and commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.

Attendance is another crucial aspect of student success. Consistent attendance not only allows students to fully engage with their learning but also fosters habits of responsibility and accountability that extend beyond the classroom. In these final weeks, let’s prioritize punctuality and regular attendance to make the most of the learning opportunities available to us. Every day counts, and every missed day represents a missed opportunity for growth and learning.

Academic achievement is the culmination of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. As we approach the end of the year, let’s maintain our focus and determination to excel in our studies. Whether it’s completing assignments, studying for exams, or seeking help when needed, let’s approach each task with diligence and a commitment to giving our best effort. Let’s celebrate our progress and accomplishments thus far while also challenging ourselves to reach new heights in these remaining weeks.

As partners in your child’s education, we appreciate your continued support in reinforcing these principles at home. By working together, we can empower our students to finish the year on a high note and carry that momentum into future endeavors.

Let’s make these final weeks count. Together, let’s finish strong.

Sincerely,

Sean. R. Diaz

Proud Principal - Mayfair Middle and High School
