Principal's Corner
HAPPY NEW YEAR LOBO FAMILIES!
I hope this message finds you well and that your new year is off to a wonderful start! As we dive into the spring semester, I wanted to take a moment to emphasize the importance of consistent attendance for your child’s success, especially as we prepare for the upcoming STAAR assessments in April.
Every day at school counts. Each lesson builds on the one before, and being present ensures that your child doesn’t miss out on valuable instruction and opportunities to grow. Regular attendance not only helps students stay on track academically but also allows them to build confidence, engage with their peers, and take part in the collaborative learning environment we strive to create here at Magoffin.
This semester, we are placing a strong focus on ensuring every student is set up for success on their STAAR assessments. Our teachers and staff are committed to providing the support and tools needed for your child to excel, and we know that by working together—students, parents, and educators—we can achieve great things.
We look forward to celebrating the successes of every student as we move through the semester and toward the end of the school year. Let’s make this a great chapter in your child’s educational journey! Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in helping our students thrive.
Love,
Ms. Ontiveros
The Importance of Attendance: Crunch Time is Here!
As we enter the second semester, the countdown to STAAR testing has officially begun. This is a crucial time for our students to be present in the classroom, as every day is an opportunity to review, learn, and prepare for success.
While we understand that the weather can be unpredictable, the district is committed to keeping students and families safe by implementing measures such as delayed entries and adjusted bus schedules when necessary. However, it is essential for parents to do their part in ensuring their child is in school every day and on time. Consistent attendance is key to academic success!
Flu Season Reminder
We also want to emphasize the importance of keeping our students healthy. With flu season upon us, please avoid sending your child to school if they are feeling unwell. Doing so helps ensure everyone’s health and safety and allows your child to recover more quickly. A well-rested and healthy child is always ready to return to the classroom and focus on their learning.
Reporting Absences
If your child does have to miss school due to illness or any other valid reason, please remember to report their absence as soon as possible. Quick and accurate reporting helps us maintain proper records and ensures your child stays on track. You can use the following link to report absences:
Let’s make this semester a success by working together to support our students’ education and well-being. Thank you for your continued efforts and partnership.
Sincerely,
Magoffin Middle School
Outerwear Uniform Policy Reminder
As the colder months continue, we want to remind parents and students about the outerwear uniform policy to ensure everyone is warm while staying within dress code guidelines:
- Jackets: Must be solid-colored (any color is acceptable) and remain unzipped while inside the building.
- Hoodies and Sweatshirts: Must be a solid color corresponding to the student's grade level:
- 6th Grade: Royal Blue
- 7th Grade: Red
- 8th Grade: White
- No Logos or Designs: All outerwear must be free of patterns, logos, or designs.
Students have until this Friday to comply with the policy. Beginning next week, students who are not following the dress code will be sent to the front office to contact parents for a change of clothing, or they may be asked to remove the outerwear.
Thank you for helping us maintain a positive and consistent learning environment. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school office for assistance.
Counselor's Corner
We are thrilled to announce and congratulate our 8th-grade students for their incredible achievements! Over 65 students have been accepted into Irvin P-TECH, and 11 students have committed to attending Silva Health Magnet for the upcoming school year. These programs will provide them with remarkable opportunities to excel in their chosen career paths.
Many of our 8th graders have also been accepted into other specialized high school programs. If your child has received an invitation to attend a high school program and has not yet accepted, please remember that student response forms are due by January 17, 2025. It’s important to respond on time to secure their spot in these fantastic opportunities.
Additionally, we would like to invite all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and their families to an exciting MedVenture for Your Future event on January 25, 2025, hosted at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (130 Rick Francis St., El Paso, TX). This free seminar will feature hands-on health career exploration, including experiments, simulations, and more! Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and it’s a great opportunity to explore careers in healthcare.
For more information or to register, please refer to the flyers below or contact René André at 915-215-4408 or via email at outreach-elpaso@ttuhsc.edu. Don’t miss out on this amazing chance to learn and grow!
Also happening very soon, on February 1st, Jefferson and Silva are hosting a Health Fest, and they are inviting the entire community to join! This event aims to educate everyone about various health topics while providing an engaging and fun learning experience.
Here’s what they have planned:
- Free Health Screenings: Attendees can get their vital signs checked.
- Educational Sessions: Topics will include carbon monoxide safety, DUI awareness, seatbelt safety, and proper emergency response techniques.
- Professional Presence: We hope to have representatives from local health careers, as well as the police and fire departments, to share their expertise and engage with the attendees.
- Fun Activities: In addition to educational components, there will be fun activities and interactive booths to keep everyone engaged and entertained throughout the event.
This event will be beneficial for all members of the community, and it would be wonderful to see everyone there. Please see flyer below for more information.
Dear Parents:
Our district has partnered with Care Solace to help students, and their families connect to mental health and substance use treatment providers in our community. We can help you find a provider with your permission that fits your sons/daughters needs or even make a referral for yourself. All referrals known as Warm Handoffs require us to obtain written consent.
You may also self refer by going to: https://caresolace.com/site/episd
This is a self-guided tool to anonymously connect with mental health providers for yourself, or a family in need.
You may contact your son/daughter's counselor for more information on Care Solace.

Family Engagement
A New Year, A New Opportunity
As we welcome the new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect and set intentions for the months ahead. One meaningful resolution to consider is spending more quality time with your children and becoming even more involved in their school activities and lives.
Being present in your child’s world makes a lasting impact—whether it’s attending their school events, helping with homework, or simply sharing a meal together at the end of the day. These moments strengthen your bond and show your child how much you care about their success and happiness.
Remember, your involvement doesn’t have to be perfect or grand; it’s about being present and showing your child that they matter. Make it a goal this year to ask about their day, celebrate their achievements, and support them through challenges. Your presence in their lives inspires them to believe in themselves and dream big.
We are excited to partner with you on this journey. This semester, we will continue to have plenty of events and parent workshops planned just for you—opportunities to connect, learn, and grow together as a family. These workshops are designed to empower parents and caregivers with tools and knowledge to continue inspiring their children to reach for their full potential.
Stay tuned for more details right below about these exciting opportunities. Let’s make 2025 a year filled with connection, learning, and inspiration for our families and community.
Sincerely,
Ms. Stephanie Cortez
