Dear Caregivers,

Thank you for your patience and understanding during today’s e-learning day as we navigated links, class rotations, and other logistics. We know that e-learning days can bring unique challenges for students and families, and we truly appreciate your support in helping our students stay engaged and on track.

As we reflect on today’s experience, we are committed to making improvements to ensure a smoother process in the future. Some of the steps we are taking include:

  • Streamlining Links and Communication: We are working to simplify how links and instructions are shared, so they are easier for students to access and follow.
  • Improving Class Rotations: We are reviewing the timing and structure of class rotations where possible to minimize confusion and maximize learning time.
  • Gathering Feedback: We will be seeking input from staff, students, and families to better understand what worked well and where we can grow. Here is the link to the Family Survey https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd-AhD9pGTd6xaWf_SEeLezvPjhPoQPlWTeDWVBUI-Z8OncjQ/viewform?usp=sharing. We recognize that it may seem like we over burden you with surveys, but your feedback is how we celebrate as well as improve.

Your partnership is invaluable as we strive to provide meaningful learning experiences, even outside the traditional classroom. If you have any feedback or suggestions, we welcome you to share them with us in the survey.

Thank you again for your flexibility and continued support. Together, we can ensure our students thrive no matter the learning environment.

Physical Activities

  1. Exercise or Yoga: Simple stretching, yoga, or dance sessions can help them relax and release pent-up energy.
  2. Indoor Family Competitions: Have fun with a sit up or jumping jacks challenge.

Creative Outlets

  1. Drawing or Coloring: Provide coloring books, sketchpads, or art supplies for creative expression.
  2. Building Projects: Use LEGO, puzzles, or other construction toys to keep their hands and minds busy.
  3. Crafts: Engage them in simple crafts like making bracelets, origami, or painting.
  4. Haiku Challenge: You and your scholar write a fun Haiku about a topic you pull from a hat. Topics can be things like favorite food, movie title, book title, sports team, name of a Disney movie etc.

Relaxation Techniques

  1. Meditation or Mindfulness: Introduce them to short guided meditations or breathing exercises.
  2. Reading: Let them unwind with a book or comic they enjoy.
  3. Music: Listening to calming music or playing an instrument can help them relax.

Connection and Play

  1. Board Games or Card Games: Engage them in family-friendly games.
  2. Imaginative Play: Let younger kids enjoy pretend play with toys or costumes.
  3. Pets: Spend time with a pet—playing, petting, or snuggling.

Screen-Free Time

  1. Cooking or Baking: Let them help make a simple recipe, like cookies or sandwiches.
  2. Sensory Play: Use playdough, kinetic sand, or water play for tactile relaxation. Middle School students still love playdough!

Social Interaction

  1. Family Time: Plan an activity like a movie night or storytelling.

Self-Directed Downtime

  1. Journaling: Encourage them to write or draw about their day.
  2. Quiet Space: Create a cozy nook where they can simply relax.

Mixing physical, creative, and calming activities ensures they balance screen time with restorative practices. What works best may depend on the child’s interests and energy level after their e-learning sessions.
