Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week, our school will both administer the Amira dyslexia screener to students in Kindergarten through third grade and conduct an intruder drill as part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and early literacy support. Amira dyslexia screener (kindergarten–third grade).
Georgia House Bill 307 (HB307), signed into law in April 2025, is the Georgia Early Literacy and Dyslexia Act that consolidates previous literacy laws, mandates universal screening, requires intervention plans, and promotes the "science of reading" for students K-3. The Amira Dyslexia Screener is an AI-powered assessment tool that identifies early signs of dyslexia and other reading disorders in K-3 students by analyzing their phonological awareness, decoding, and fluency skills during an automated oral reading assessment. Thus, the Amira screener helps identify children who may need additional support with reading and decoding skills. This tool is used to guide targeted instruction and to connect families with appropriate resources if needed. Trained staff will administer the screener in a supportive, low-stress manner. It is designed to be quick, engaging, and respectful of each child.
The Intruder drill is a critical safety practice designed to protect students and staff by reinforcing clear, practiced responses to potential threats. The drill will be conducted with professionalism and minimal disruption to learning. Instructions will be age-appropriate, and staff will guide students calmly and clearly. There will be a debrief to review procedures and identify any adjustments to enhance safety and communication.
Some children may feel unsettled by safety drills or screenings. Our counselors and teachers are prepared to provide reassurance, talk through feelings, and connect families with resources if needed.
We are grateful for your trust and collaboration as we prioritize both safety and literacy. Our dedicated staff is committed to providing a supportive environment where every child can grow and thrive.
If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please contact the school office or your child’s teacher. We welcome your input and appreciate your involvement in our students’ education.
With appreciation,
Will Zwingmann, Ed.S.
Principal
