Message from the Principal
Welcome back to school! We've had a banner first week and look forward to the upcoming year.
Mascots help us to identify positive attributes and build school spirit. By unanimous vote, KES faculty and staff have designated the Yeti as the official mascot for school spirit! We chose the Yeti for two reasons: MindYeti is a mindfulness program we use with Second Step social and emotional learning, and the Yeti can also be referred to as the abominable snowman, or Bigfoot. These mythical creatures love the snow, and we do too! In the same vein, Music Educator, Mrs. Christine Morton, has written a school song, lyrics below.
Program Presentation night is Thursday, 9/12, from 5-7 PM. Due to the increased numbers of students at KES this year and the time constraint to get out all the necessary information, we will have a pizza dinner in lieu of the barbecue originally announced. Pizza will be served in the dining hall at 5 followed by some brief announcements before heading down to individual classrooms with your children. We truly appreciate families taking the time to attend this invaluable information session.
Informational packets went home with students last week and we asked that they be returned this week. If you haven't already done so, please take the time to fill out this necessary paperwork and return to the classroom teacher on Monday.

News from the Library/Media Specialist, Eileen Vaughn
Welcome to another school year. I am starting the school year off with lessons on our Acceptable Use Policy and Media Balance. CommonSenseMedia has great new lessons for students of all ages. If you have never looked at their parent section, I recommend that you do. There is a lot of useful information. Below is a link to a family media agreement that includes developing a well-balanced media life.
I will also post these links on the Technology section of our school website.
Summer Enrichment at KES by Mrs. Knipes and Mrs. Gormly
Students in grades 1-3 enjoyed several fun activities during our Summer Enrichment program. Our themes were Stars and Stripes and Sharks. Students participated in activities such as making fireworks, the Empire State Building using keva blocks, and sharks. The friendly kind of course!
I would like to thank everyone for attending and supporting our summer programs. I would also like to thank Jake Knipes and Allie Daigle for assisting with the program.
The 4th-6th graders had an excellent time at Summer Enrichment. We spent one week learning all about folktales- reading stories, researching different cultures, and even writing our own folktales! During the second week, we dove into challenging STEAM projects, such as designing functional and wearable fashion out of trash bags and designing bridges that would withstand car and boat traffic, as well as hold a lot of weight. Thank you to all the families and children who participated. It was another successful year!
Killington Alma Mater, written by Music Educator/Band Director Mrs. Morton
I like to sing of a special place where I can truly be
Free to laugh and cry
Be friendly or shy
Cheery and carefree
A place where I can learn and grow
And question without distress
My alma mater Killington
The school that is the best
Killington Elementary is the place I want to be
Killington Elementary is the school that’s dear to me
We give honor to this special place
Pledging all our loyalty
Singing tribute with a happy heart
To Killington Elementary
Killington Elementary is the place I want to be
Killington elementary is the school that’s dear to me
