Two KCUSD high schools recognized as CA Distinguished Schools

Kings Canyon Unified is proud to celebrate Reedley High School and Reedley Middle College High School for being recognized once again as California Distinguished Schools.

Reedley High School earned this prestigious honor for the second time since 2021, an impressive accomplishment considering it is one of only a handful of traditional high schools selected as a Distinguished School across Madera, Tulare, and Fresno counties. The recognition highlights the continued dedication of students, teachers, and staff to academic excellence.

Reedley Middle College High School is celebrating its third recognition since 2021. As a unique charter school, RMCHS offers students the opportunity to take college courses while completing their high school requirements through dual enrollment at Reedley College. The results reflect the strength of that model. Last year, RMCHS achieved a 100 percent graduation rate, and 100 percent of students met all A-G requirements, ensuring every graduate completed the coursework needed for eligibility to California’s public universities.

This achievement is something the entire Kings Canyon Unified community can be proud of. At the same time, it serves as a reminder that the work continues as the district remains committed to providing every student with the opportunity to succeed.

Congratulations to the students, staff, and families of Reedley High School and Reedley Middle College High School on this outstanding accomplishment.

KCUSD ROP students selected for competitive 'Future Nurses Program'

Kings Canyon Unified students are celebrating exciting news after the final selections for the highly competitive Future Nurses Program at Fresno City College were announced week.

Out of the 20 students selected for the program, seven are from Kings Canyon Unified schools, an outstanding accomplishment that highlights the strength of our Health Science pathway and the preparation students receive through Valley ROP programs.

Students in the program also receive priority registration for Fresno City College’s Registered Nursing (RN) program, one of the most competitive nursing programs in the region. This opportunity creates a clear bridge from high school Health Science programs into college coursework and careers in healthcare.

TK students learn about photography

Students in Transitional Kindergarten at Riverview Elementary recently enjoyed a special photo opportunity as part of their newest Project-Based Learning unit on cameras.

As part of the lesson, students explored the big investigation questions: What different types of cameras are there? and How do we use cameras? To bring the learning to life, students dressed up with fun props and stepped in front of the camera for their very own photo session.

Thanks to the generosity of Candid Camper, a mobile photo experience that donated their time and supplies, students were able to see a different type of camera in action and experience what it’s like to have their picture professionally taken. Each student even received a photo to take home.

The camera unit is part of KCUSD’s hands-on TK curriculum, where students explore topics through engaging project-based learning units that integrate art, writing, science, and discovery. After earlier units on architecture and light, the camera project continues to spark curiosity while helping students learn through creativity and exploration.

Experiences like this help make learning memorable — and give students a moment to smile for the camera.

A night of culture & creativity

Kings Canyon Unified’s American Indian Education families recently gathered at T.L. Reed for a night full of culture, creativity, and connection. Family Culture & Craft Night brought together students and parents for an experience that was both meaningful and fun.

The event featured special guest Tiffany Baker of Baker’s Bars Soapery, who led an engaging cultural talk and hands-on workshop that invited families to learn and create together. Throughout the evening, Tiffany shared the significance of Choctaw fire practices, bringing history to life in a way that sparked curiosity and resonated with both students and adults.

That inspiration quickly turned into action as families rolled up their sleeves and tapped into their creativity, crafting their own soaps and lotions using colors and scents inspired by the traditions they had just learned about.

The room was filled with laughter, teamwork, and a sense of pride as parents and students worked side by side, creating something meaningful while honoring cultural heritage.

Events like these highlight the power of hands-on learning and the importance of building strong connections between families and schools.
