Message from Mrs. Dickerson Message from Mrs. Dickerson

As we near the end of the school year, let’s stay focused and finish strong. The final weeks are a time to celebrate the hard work and progress we've made, while maintaining our commitment to learning and growth. Whether it’s completing assignments, participating in activities, or preparing for the next steps, every effort counts. Let’s work together to make these final weeks matter, ensuring we close out the year on a high note and set ourselves up for future success.

Whether you're cheering from the bleachers, helping with homework, attending board meetings, or simply asking good questions—your involvement matters. As superintendent, I remain committed to listening, working hard, and doing right by our students, staff, and families. I greatly appreciate your support this year and look forward to continuing to grow alongside our school community.

Director of Student Services Announcement

Mrs. Angie Vickery has been approved as the next Director of Student Services for Blue River Valley Schools. A familiar face to many, Mrs. Vickery is both a member of the BRV community and a former BRV staff member. In her new role, she will oversee special education, federal grants, and early childhood programming. We’re excited to welcome her back to BRV and look forward to the experience and leadership she will bring beginning July 1, 2025.

Human Resources and Operations Manager

Ms. Rachel Walker has been approved as the new Human Resources and Operations Manager at BRV, with her role beginning on May 1, 2025. This position will provide valuable support to our staff by overseeing all aspects of human resources and assisting the facilities and maintenance department with essential administrative operations. As we continue to focus on efficiency and effectiveness across the district, we believe this role will be a vital asset to our school corporation.

Certified Teaching Openings Starting Fall of 2025

Blue River Valley Schools is excited to introduce a new Dean of Students/Athletic Coordinator position for the 2025–2026 school year. This role is designed to enhance student support while providing additional oversight for athletic events. As Dean of Students, the focus will be on student attendance, behavior, and fostering a positive school climate. In the role of Athletic Coordinator, responsibilities will include supervising and managing athletic events to ensure they run smoothly and safely. This is not an additional staff member; rather, we are restructuring existing teaching positions to increase efficiency and effectiveness across the district.

As part of this staffing adjustment, the Jr./Sr. High Athletic Director role will shift to a K–12 Athletic Director position. This will remain an administrative role and will allow us to better serve the needs of all BRV athletic programs, ensuring consistency and support across all grade levels.

If you know anyone that is looking to become a member of our Blue River Valley Schools staff, please encourage them to reach out now. We are in the process of reviewing applications and will be setting up interviews in late April or early May.

Balancing Challenges with Commitment Balancing Challenges with Commitment

As many of you are aware the current legislative session will have a significant impact on Blue River Valley Schools. As a taxpayer I understand the desire to pay less in taxes. But as a school superintendent, I can tell you that doing more with less is incredibly difficult. Just like in your own households, the cost of living continues to rise—and so does the cost to operate and maintain our school facilities.

As the BRV Superintendent, I am aware of our school’s tax history and the importance of being good stewards of public funds. My goal is to ensure that BRV operates as efficiently as possible, asking the least of our local taxpayers while still meeting the needs of our students. That said, I also believe our students deserve well-maintained facilities and a team of dedicated staff members. Striking that balance is challenging, especially as we face both the need to improve and maintain our aging facilities. I’ve spent considerable time this year developing a long-term facility improvement plan and laying the groundwork for ongoing, planned maintenance. These aren’t issues that can be fixed overnight—but with time, planning, and community support, we can make meaningful progress.

Like many of you, I have questions about Senate Bill 1, including the proposed dissolution of Union Schools and the potential implications for Blue River Valley. Unfortunately, at this time, I don’t have all the answers. I will continue to follow the situation closely and share updates as more information becomes available.

What I do know—regardless of this legislation or any that may follow—is that Blue River Valley Schools will continue to move forward. We will meet the needs of our students while doing our best to comply with the expectations set by the state of Indiana. I remain committed to working with our leadership team, teachers, staff, families, and community to ensure BRV continues to grow and adapt. The road isn’t always easy, and we all make human mistakes—but I believe in our ability to rise above the challenges we face.

As long as I am here, I will continue to advocate for the success of our students and staff. I believe that our small, rural school matters. At BRV, students have the opportunity to participate, to lead, and to belong in ways they might not experience elsewhere. Through community partnerships, we’re able to offer courses, career experiences, and opportunities that extend far beyond the walls of our school. And most importantly, at Blue River Valley, our staff knows your child—and when times are tough, we step in as a community to lift one another up.
