BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION!

Dear Students and Families,

As we celebrate Black History Month, let us take this opportunity to reflect on the countless contributions and achievements of Black individuals throughout history. From trailblazers in science, art, politics, and civil rights, to those who have shaped our communities and culture in profound ways, Black history is American history.

This month is not just a time to learn about the past, but to be inspired by the ongoing efforts of many who continue to make a difference. We encourage students to explore the stories of resilience, innovation, and leadership that have defined generations, and to recognize the importance of diversity, equality, and inclusion in all aspects of life.

Together, let us honor these remarkable individuals and their legacies, while committing to build a future where everyone’s voice is heard and valued.

Happy Black History Month!

Used Clothes and Electronics recycling drive!

The RHS environmental club is running two activities during the month of February to help us earn Green School Certification. We are collecting gently used clothing as well as old electronics such as cell phones or laptops to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill. The clothes will be donated to a local charity, and the electronic devices will be recycled to avoid contaminating the landfills. Collection boxes for the materials will be inside the front entrance of the school as well as in the media center. Please take this opportunity to clean out some of your old items and either put them to good use or ensure they are recycled properly. Any questions on this, feel free to email Jeff Grandin at jeff_s_grandin@mcpsmd.org.

BOOSTER CLUB UPDATES!

RHS Families,

We’re excited to invite you to Ram Jam – Rockin’ for Rockville!, an adults-only night of live music, food, and community—all for a great cause.

🎓 Why Ram Jam Matters

Ram Jam is a critical fundraiser supporting the Rockville High School Student Government Association (SGA) for ALL grades—9 through 12.

Many families don’t realize that each class must raise funds throughout all four years to help cover major senior-year expenses, including:

  • Senior Prom

  • Senior Class Trip

  • Other end-of-year celebrations and traditions

Funds raised this year directly support today’s freshmen, sophomores, juniors, & seniors ensuring they aren’t scrambling—or burdened—with costs when senior year arrives. Simply put: early support makes a big difference later.

🎸 Ram Jam – Rockin’ for Rockville!

📅 Saturday, February 21, 2026 - doors open at 7pm

Summary...

Spreading Kindness This February

As we step into February, a month often associated with hearts and flowers, I want to take a moment to reflect on what “love” looks like within our school walls. In a high school community, love isn't just a sentiment; it shows up most powerfully as kindness and mutual respect.

High school can be a whirlwind of academic pressure and social navigation. During these busy weeks, the smallest gestures—a supportive word to a classmate, a thank-you to a teacher, or simply choosing patience during a stressful moment—make a world of difference.

Why It Matters:

  • A Culture of Belonging: When we lead with respect, every student feels safe to be their authentic self.

  • Mental Well-being: Kindness reduces stress and builds the social connections we all need to thrive.

  • Legacy: How we treat one another today defines the character of our graduating classes for years to come.

I challenge every member of our RAM'ily community to look for one "unseen" opportunity to show kindness this month. Whether it’s saying hello to someone new or acknowledging a peer’s hard work, let’s make sure our school is a place where everyone feels valued.

Thank you for making Rockville High School such a compassionate place to learn and grow.

Warmly,

Principal Pyles
