November Update
Glasscock County ISD

Dear Bearkat Community,
As we move into November, there’s a sense of calm and gratitude that settles over our schools. The routines are strong, learning is in full swing, and our students are finding their rhythm. It’s also a perfect time to pause and reflect on how far we’ve come since the start of the year.
November also brings a renewed sense of perseverance. The early excitement of the school year has turned into steady effort and focus. This is the time when growth really happens—when students begin to see that progress takes patience, and success often comes from simply showing up and giving their best each day. It’s a month for building endurance and confidence that will carry them through the rest of the year.
We are deeply grateful for our families and community partners who continue to encourage and support our students. Your involvement makes all the difference. As we head into the busy holiday season, let’s keep lifting one another up and focusing on what truly matters: growth, gratitude, and connection.
Let's continue Achieving Excellence Together!

MyPlate Ambassadors
A group of junior girls - Ivy Braden, Emily Easterling, and Sydnee Gully - were selected to serve Texas as MyPlate Ambassadors. For our school, this means that they will be serving younger students, teaching them about the importance of nutrition and keeping a healthy lifestyle. Within the program, they have all chosen to follow the Serving Up MyPlate track. This means that they have the option to teach 1st-6th grade, focusing on interactive activities to help highlight MyPlate. Additionally, these students have been attending monthly meetings to help expand their knowledge and give younger students more information. Finally, they've been "leading by example," meaning they have been implementing MyPlate values in their everyday lives. They hope that their work will impact peoples' lives in the community and at school, influencing them to follow healthy lifestyle guidelines.
Bearkat and Lady Kat Runners Dominate at State
We’re proud to announce that our Girls Cross Country Team finished 3rd at the State Cross Country Meet! Their dedication, early morning practices, and incredible teamwork have truly paid off. The girls showed up ready to earn their spot on the medal stand!
Thomas Hillger placed 33rd out of 149 runners in his first appearance at the state meet and also earned CCCAT All-State honors.
Congratulations to these athletes, their teammates, and their coaches for their hard work and determination!
Academic Updates
UIL Academics at GCISD
Academic UIL gives students the opportunity to shine in subjects like math, science, literature, and the arts while developing important skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence. At GCISD, students participate in a wide variety of events, including Accounting, Calculator Applications, Computer Science, Editorial Writing, News Writing, Copy Editing, Headline Writing, Number Sense, Science, Feature Writing, Current Events, Literary Criticism, Ready Writing, Social Studies, Spelling, One Act Play, and many more. These competitions encourage students to explore their passions in greater depth, challenge themselves academically, and apply what they’ve learned in creative and practical ways.
Being part of UIL also helps students grow beyond academics. They learn to collaborate, communicate effectively, manage time, and persevere through challenges—all skills that are valuable in school, college, and life. Beyond the skills and achievements, UIL offers students a fun and rewarding experience, giving them the chance to meet peers with similar interests and celebrate their hard work and dedication. Overall, Academic UIL not only makes learning more engaging but also prepares students for future success in college, careers, and personal growth.
SAT School Day
All seniors participated in the SAT School Day, giving them the opportunity to take this important college entrance exam during the school day at no cost. The SAT helps measure readiness for college by assessing skills in reading, writing, and math, and it can also open doors to scholarships and other opportunities.
Energy Bus as GCHS
At GCHS, students are hopping on The Energy Bus, a program designed to fuel positivity, motivation, and teamwork. Through fun lessons and real-life applications, students are learning how their attitudes can shape their day, overcome challenges, and lift up those around them. It’s all about taking charge of your journey, supporting others, and riding toward success with energy and enthusiasm! Desire, vision, and focus move your bus in the right direction. Students are encouraged to set personal goals, stay committed, and reflect on their progress along the way. By embracing these principles, they learn that small, positive actions each day can lead to big results both in school and in life.
Our seniors and sophomores recently completed an Energy Bus activity, choosing a one-word goal to focus on for the remainder of the school year. These words reflect their personal aspirations, attitudes, and the positive impact they want to make in their daily lives. Check out the attached word cloud to see the inspiring goals our students have set for themselves!
