LEWIS ELEMENTARY NEWS
September 24th
"DID YOU KNOW?"
EVERY SCHOOL DAY COUNTS. “Did you know?” Keeping your child at home when they are sick or have a fever helps keep our classrooms healthy! If students attend school when they are ill, germs can spread and more students miss school and learning time.

THINGS TO DO NOW
ParentVUE verification
Action Required
Each year parents and/or guardians are asked to review and update the information on file for their students before school starts. ParentVUE is a secure website and mobile app which offers parents/guardians real-time access to school messages, school calendar, attendance, grades, course history, name pronunciations and much more.
Benefits of verifying online via ParentVUE:
- Complete yearly verification of your student's information
- Update your communication and language preferences
- Ensure your school has the most up-to-date information
- Save paper and time
ParentSquare
ParentSquare
Portland Public Schools is transitioning from the Remind platform to ParentSquare to allow for easier, more efficient communication between the district, our schools, our teachers, and our students. Everyone should have been sent an activation link from PPS.
Here is a guide on how to get started with ParentSquare.
Here are some tips for using ParentSquare.

Birdie's Place Fundraising Committee
"We are seeking dedicated volunteers to join the fundraising committee for Birdie’s Place, a memorial playground project honoring a child’s legacy of joy and play. Specifically, we need individuals with skills or interest in community and business outreach to help spread the word, engage local partners, and build strong support for this meaningful cause. If you’re passionate about making a difference and bringing Birdie’s Place to life, we’d love to have you on our team! To learn more, please email us at birdiesplacefundraising@gmail.com."
TAG Update
The PPS TAG office has provided the slideshow linked below for families interested in learning more about Talented and Gifted services in PPS. Please view the slideshow at your leisure and reach out to Lewis's TAG facilitator, Lisa Tegethoff (ltegethoff@pps.net), with any questions you may have. Lisa will also host a Google Meet Q&A session for those with questions on October 16th from 6:30PM - 7:00PM.

PTA News:

Time to get excited for Jog-a-thon, the Lewis PTA's biggest fundraiser and community-building event. Come cheer on students Thursday, October 9 as they run around the field to raise money for Lewis. (With funds raised from last year, Lewis teachers will bring a drumming residency to the whole school this year!) Text, email and share the link to donate and help us spread the word! Click here to Donate to the Jog a Thon! A SignUpGenius will be coming soon seeking volunteers for the day of the event. In the meantime, mark your calendar with students' race times: K/1st: 12:50-1:10pm; 2nd/3rd/Mr. Post: 1:20-1:40 pm; and 4th/5th: 1:50-2:10pm.

Trunk-or-Treat is coming Friday, October 24 from 5-7pm! Start planning your spookiest, elementary-school-age appropriate trunk decorations and costumes. We rely on your generous candy donations to ensure every child leaves with a treat bag! We are asking each Lewis family, if possible, to donate one bag of recently purchased, individually wrapped candy. All donations can be dropped off in the "Candy Monster" collection bin beginning Wednesday, September 24. This bin will be outside the front office during the day and on the blacktop at school pick up. We will be sending out Sign Up Genius links in next week's newsletter for event volunteers and decorated cars. Thank you for helping support this fun, free, community event!
