November is a wonderful time to reflect on the things we are thankful and grateful for, and our Eisenhower team is incredibly honored to dedicate time this month to express our deep gratitude to veterans. We are excited for our students to extend invitations to the veterans in their lives to our all-school Veterans Day program on Tuesday, November 11th, where we will celebrate those who have served and those who continue to serve our country. This is a special opportunity for our students and staff to show genuine appreciation and respect for their dedication and sacrifice.

We encourage you to reach out and invite the special veterans in your lives to be our honored guests at this full-school assembly. Please understand that space is limited, so we kindly ask that only one additional person accompany each veteran. In addition, to help us organize a seamless and respectful event, please return your invitation forms to school as soon as possible. If you need a new form, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher.

Dressing for the Weather

We have had a warm fall, but colder weather is right around the corner. Just a reminder that students do go outside for recess every day unless it is raining, the temperature is below zero, or the windchill is colder than -10. Please be sure students have appropriate gear to head outside each day. Also, if your student(s) is picked up at the end of the day, keeping an umbrella and/or rain gear in their backpack would be a good idea. We've had rain sneak up on us already this year and many students went home sopping wet. Thank you for your help!

In appreciation and partnership,

Principal DeRung

Pre-K to Grade 3 Parenting Education: Did you know?

Learning how to problem-solve takes time and lots of practice! But problem-solving will help your child be a successful student while they gain confidence and life skills.

  1. Better problem-solving skills support social skills.

  2. Improved problem-solving abilities help your child’s ability to process information.

  3. Frustration is a sign your child is learning, don’t worry if you’re seeing increase frustration when learning a new skill!

WATCH D.O.G.S.® is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps them to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their student’s life. Our goal is to have you spend a day this year at the school to be a positive male role model and to provide an extra set of eyes and ears. Watch Dogs will be volunteering at recess, the lunchroom and in gym class. Your Watch Dogs day will start at 10:50 and end around 3:50 pm. After you check in at the main office your day will start in our lunchroom. While in the lunchroom you will be visiting students and helping with opening lunch items as needed. Next you will be heading outside to join students at recess. At recess please feel free to visit and play games. Your day will end at Physical Education (PE). Please feel free in joining the class, you never know what fun exercise themed event they will be working on. My favorite is the giant parachute. During the day, if you have any questions, please feel to ask a staff member or stop in the office.

Enrichment Programs - Seeking volunteers who are interested in leading any of the following programs. Online training is available. Please contact Kathrina DeKruyff-Glass if you are interested. (Training is required)

Challenge Reading

Volunteers provide children with additional opportunities to foster a love of reading outside of the classroom by introducing various genres of literature, extending students' writing connections, and promoting higher level thinking skills. Like a book club! This occurs outside of school hours, usually after school.

Math PLUS

The purpose of the Math PLUS is to provide additional, on-going mathematical experiences for students in grade K-5. Students participate in math activities that reinforce problem solving, logic and reasoning, and communicating mathematical findings. This makes math learning fun! This occurs outside of school hours, usually after school.

Skillbuilders

The program was developed to help kindergarten thru second grade students develop lifelong literacy and math skills. The volunteer program is comprised of a variety of activities that volunteers can practice with students one-on-one in the classroom while reinforcing the skills that classroom teachers have already introduced to kindergarteners through lesson plans, including: Reading aloud, tracing the alphabet, sorting and finding letters, listening to sounds, and counting and building number recognition. This program occurs during the school day.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me if an opportunity arises that you would like to be involved in.

Thank you and I look forward to working with you here at Eisenhower

Eisenhower's Free Little Pantry

We are excited to share that Eisenhower now has a Free Little Pantry onsite at our school! We would like to give a special thank you to the Hopkins Men's Shed (pictured below) for building the pantry and to Second Harvest Heartland, Kuhl Design + Build, Coon Rapids Lions Club, and Every Meal for their contributions to the Pantry, which made this resource possible.

What is a Free Little Pantry? A Free Little Pantry is a resource for Eisenhower families and community members to access non-perishable food items and personal hygiene items. The pantry operates like a Free Little Library, meaning that people can take items out of the pantry for free and if they are able to, can also donate items to the pantry. If you are not able to donate to the pantry, you can still access the items in the pantry. Since this resource is a donation based system, there is no guarantee of what kind of food or pantry items will be found in the pantry.

What Kind of Items Can I Put in the Pantry?

  • Non-perishable food items such as canned goods, noodles, rice, snacks.
  • Tooth paste
  • Tooth brushes
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Soap
  • Laundry detergent
  • Disinfecting spray
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels
  • Tampons/Pads

If you have a large amount of donations you would like to give that cannot fit into the Pantry please reach out to Josie Gall at: josie.gall@ahschools.us

How Do I Get to the Pantry? The Pantry is located on the South West side of the school behind our gym. If coming by car, please enter the parking lot off of University Avenue NW. The Pantry is denoted by the red X on the map below.
