The Pulse Post
Vol. 5, Issue 01 | Aug 4-Aug 8
Dear McClure Families,
I hope you and your loved ones are enjoying a safe and restful summer!
It’s hard to believe that just last year, I had the honor of returning to the Meadowcreek Cluster—where I began my educational career as a teacher two decades ago—this time as the proud principal of McClure Health Science High School. After a year of connecting with our students, families, teachers, and staff, I am more inspired than ever to lead our school toward our shared vision: becoming a world-class health science high school known for making a positive impact in students’ lives.
At McClure, we are committed to delivering the same rigorous academic experience offered by traditional high schools while providing a wide array of college and career opportunities. Through our partners in organizations like Piedmont Eastside, Northside Hospital, Gwinnett Public Health, and Northeast Georgia Medical Braselton our students are exposed to speaker series, internships, and clinical experiences, and earn certifications in Patient Care Tech, Allied Health, Exercise Physiology, Medical Front Office, Sports Medicine, Computer Science, Marketing, and Audio/Video/Film.
At the heart of our work is a deep commitment to empowering every student to reach their full potential. Student voice and leadership are central to our culture, with a wide range of clubs, organizations, and initiatives—such as No Place for Hate and Peer Leadership—helping to shape our school environment. We strive to create a community where every student, parent, and staff member feels respected and valued.
This past year, we focused on engaging instruction, effective teacher collaboration, and student support. We were featured by NBCU Academy, received a $5,000 grant from the Walton Family Foundation, and earned a spot on the AP Honor Roll with an Access Award. U.S. News & World Report ranked us among the top high schools in Georgia, and the Georgia Department of Education recognized us as a State Math Leader School. Our proudest achievement? A 5-year graduation rate exceeding 90% and nearly $6.5 million in scholarships earned by the Class of 2025—the highest per-pupil total in Gwinnett County Public Schools for the fourth consecutive year!
As we look ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, we remain focused on consistent instructional excellence, literacy development, and more collaboration in the classroom. As you may know, our student body and school spirit are collectively known as “The Pulse”—and we invite you to “feel the pulse” with us as we continue to grow, achieve, and thrive together.
I look forward to welcoming your family at Open House- Wednesday, July 30, from 8:00 to 11:00 AM.
Yours in Service,
Dr. Gypsy Hernandez
