Christie's Corner Christie's Corner

March is roaring in! I'm thrilled to share with you that the architects from 19six Architects would like a chance to meet with Ralph Richardson Center families on March 12 from 5:30 - 6:00 to discuss your ideas of how to improve Ralph Richardson Center, from a remodeling stance. They have met with several different groups of staff so far, and I truly appreciate the plethora of ideas that people have suggested. With all of these suggestions, Ralph Richardson can become an even better learning site for its students. In fact, we are extremely lucky, because one of the architects on the project has a brother with special needs, so I feel that she has a better and more realistic understanding of our site's needs. If you plan on attending the parent meeting, please RSVP to Christie Waldron at cwaldron@sanjuan.edu.

March Bulletin Board March Bulletin Board

A special thank you to room 20 for another decorated bulletin board in the office this month. Students matched pre-written descriptions of specific monkeys with their images, used dot markers to correctly answer multiple choice questions about the setting, characters, and details of the book To Kill a Mocking Bird, and used dot markers to identify answers to multiple choice questions regarding indigenous people of North America. Thank you for sharing what you're learning in class with us!

Health News Health News

As you know, our RRC students are very important to us and keeping them healthy while at school is a top priority. Many of our students are medically fragile, so if they happen to get sick, the results can be very serious. We are asking for your help. Please refer to the attached chart explaining when you should keep your student home. These precautions will not only keep our students healthy, but our staff healthy as well. Thank you for your assistance.

M.O.V.E. Moment M.O.V.E. Moment

M.O.V.E. stands for Mobility Opportunities Via Education/Experience and is a San Juan sponsored activity-based program designed to teach children with severe disabilities the functional motor skills needed to sit, stand, and walk as independently as possible. We have students and staff working very hard on this every day!

Meet Emily! Emily has been a student at Ralph Richardson for several years and has progressed from using a wheelchair to being able to walk in a gait trainer. What an accomplishment and we can't wait to see how far she will go. Keep it up, Emily!
