Physical Education Update #2
It’s hard to believe we’re already in November! In P.E., we’ve been working hard, learning new skills, and having a lot of fun along the way. Our classes have enjoyed a wide variety of activities designed to build different skill-based objectives.
During mid-October, grades K–5 participated in exciting kicking and soccer skill-based activities, followed by fall-themed lessons that incorporated a range of movement and coordination skills.
Grades K–2 focused on important soccer fundamentals such as dribbling, trapping, control, passing, and shooting—all while emphasizing proper technique and form. Students practiced these skills through fun and active games that kept everyone moving and engaged.
Grades 3–5 worked on developing their soccer and kicking skills through warm-ups and class activities like 4 Corner Soccer, 2v2 Cone Soccer, Shoot for a Goal, and small-sided games. These activities helped students showcase their footwork, coordination, and teamwork while having fun with their classmates.
To celebrate the fall season, all students recently participated in our “Fall House Knock Down” game, where they practiced overhand throwing for accuracy by trying to knock down fall-themed characters. Their enthusiasm and technique were outstanding!
This week, we’re celebrating our annual P.E. Fall Festival, featuring fun station activities such as Pumpkin Patch Toss, The Great Pumpkin Kick, Pumpkin Knockdown, Falling Leaves, and Cone Maze Hay Rides. The excitement in the gym has been contagious!
Next week, students will wrap up our fall-themed unit with new activities focused on striking, movement patterns, and evasion skills.
I’m so proud of the effort, enthusiasm, and positive energy our students bring to P.E. every day. They come ready to learn and move, and I do my best to match their excitement!
Be on the lookout for information about our Elm Street School Turkey Trot, which will take place during school on November 26 (which is a half day). Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Physical Education Update #1
Dear families,
It has been great to welcome students back into the gym for Physical Education, and I have really enjoyed getting a chance to begin building positive relationships with all students while establishing our P.E routines and procedures. We have had such an exciting and eventful start to our school-year filled with much laughter, community building and of course plenty of movement and skill development!
To begin our school-year, all students in grades k-5 began with team building and cooperation activities. Team building and cooperation is a great way to get all students working together in a positive and meaningful way, while trying to accomplish a task. Students demonstrated lots of problem solving, communication and movement skills during our activities and did so well!
Students in grades k-2 have also enjoyed exploring movement patterns while participating in some great spacial awareness activities in our gymnasium. In addition, students in grades k-2 also participated in some fun skill-based introductory activities to practice their throwing (underhand and overhand), catching, and kicking skills which we will revisit throughout the year in many different ways.
Students in grades 3-5 have also had a busy, yet exciting start to our year in P.E. We got a chance to learn and revisit some important skills like throwing, catching, kicking and coordination in a variety of activities that we will be using throughout the school-year. We had so much fun learning and revisiting our skills and students did so well! A favorite so far has been the game, “Lifesize Battleship” which is a take on the board game battle ship, but with P.E. related concepts and skills such as: throwing, catching, offensive/defensive strategies, and teamwork!
This week and next, all students in grades k-5 are involved in our soccer unit where we are focused on our kicking skills as well as other soccer related concepts such as : dribbling, passing, shooting and a little bit of game play!
As our year progresses, we will continue to build upon and revisit many skills while staying safe and having fun! I am so proud of all our students and their efforts so far this year towards becoming the best version of themselves! I look forward to having a terrific school year and I will be in-touch about some exciting events throughout the year.
