Sept. '22 ShoutOuts!A monthly update on GSAs & the PSUSD LGBTQ Alliance

Dear school leaders, GSA advisors, teachers, families, and students

I hope you've enjoyed your first month of school - despite all of this heat and humidity! This is the PSUSD LGBTQ Alliance's monthly newsletter. Our vision is to empower and affirm the LGBTQ+ students, staff, and families of PSUSD by developing policy, implementing trainings, and increasing student, parent, and community engagement.

This September issue of the Shout Outs Newsletter will update you on recent progress made by the Alliance and the school district. You can also find great resources, including the Alliance's master calendar for the year, helpful glossaries of terms, updates on GSA clubs, a staff resource library, and more!

Gender Support Plan Training

59 PSUSD school site staff members have been trained on implementing Gender Support Plans across the district! A gender support plan is a document that a gender-expansive, transgender, or questioning student can fill out with a trained staff member that helps them to identify safe people, safe places, and an overall plan for their safety and comfort at school.

We want to celebrate YOU!!

In the interest of ensuring that our clubs are safe and inclusive for all, PSUSD is revising the names of all district GSAs. In the past, GSA has stood for Gay Straight Alliance, but following guidance from the GSA Network, it now stands for Gender and Sexuality Alliance. Some district clubs may have other names, such as Pride Club or Rainbow Club... no need to change those names! The only change being made is to the words in the GSA acronym.
