Monthly Bond Construction Update
May 15, 2026
THANK YOU
As always, we want to thank our voters for approving the $49 million construction bond to provide improvements to Banks School District facilities. With the Oregon School Capital Improvement Matching (OSCIM) grant, we have more than $55 million to complete the following projects:
Banks High School Addition
Campus-wide traffic flow improvements
Locker room modernization
Auxiliary gym addition
Safety and security
Elementary HVAC and roof repair
We’re working with partners Cornerstone Management Group, BRIC Architecture, and P&C Construction to steward these funds well and complete projects on time.
THE LATEST
Student Documentary
Throughout the demolition process, the district and its partners have taken great care to preserve school, building, and community history. Teams have salvaged many items to be repurposed in the new facilities, including the mural, wood for wainscoting in hallways, and bricks for landscaping. The district has also distributed items to the community by request to allow individuals to preserve the history of the building at home. Along with preserving items, we are planning to showcase artifacts of historical significance via digital formats, such as a web page, a coffee table book, and a documentary produced by BHS students. Students are finishing up the documentary, and it is coming soon!
Groundbreaking
The rain didn’t stop us from holding our groundbreaking ceremony in April. We want to extend sincere thanks to the mayor, city council, planning commission, economic development council, PTOs, and Banks Fire Department for coming out to support us at this important event as we officially commence construction on our bond projects.
Thank you to Next Dimension Bakery for providing cake and cookies with a Banks Construction Bond theme! We are grateful for our Banks community!
Construction Projects
The Banks High School campus is about to change quickly! Crews are on site doing grading work on the foundation of the high school addition. Fences are in place to protect trees throughout the construction process. In partnership with Save a Tree arborists, we are working to ensure the health and wellbeing of the oak tree at the entrance of the campus. Oaks are resilient, and the outlook for this tree is good. It will remain a prominent feature on campus for years to come.
Inside the current building, locker room demolition is underway, with a full locker room remodel to follow to provide modern, equitable spaces for our student athletes.
We’ve received shipments of steel to begin framing the new auxiliary gym, and it will take shape soon with completion expected in winter of this year.
With extensive work planned for the summer, we are collaborating with our partners to coordinate construction as seamlessly as possible.
See it for Yourself!
You can now view the progress of the Banks High School addition anytime through our 24-hour live P&C Construction cam! Check it out as you’ll see plenty of action there soon!
In-Kind Work
P&C Construction serves as the main point of contact for contractors or vendors in the community who are interested in contributing in-kind work to these bond projects. If you have leads or referrals for this type of work, please contact Brian Sica at the Superintendent’s Office at brians@banks.k12.or.us or 503-324-8591.
COMING UP
The locker room full remodel is coming soon to provide modern, equitable spaces for our student athletes. They are expected to be completed in August 2026.
Construction is beginning on the Banks High School addition, bus turnaround, and cafeteria refresh, with expected completion August 2027.
The new aux gym – with a full-sized basketball court, two side courts, new restrooms, additional storage, new bleachers, a scoreboard, maintenance facility, and team rooms with storage – is expected to be ready by winter 2026!
HVAC improvements at the elementary school will begin this summer. Roof replacement and repairs will take place this summer if time allows; otherwise, the work will occur next summer.
The Banks Creek culvert repairs are planned for summer 2026.
BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
The Bond Oversight Committee meets quarterly to monitor bond-funded construction projects and help citizens stay informed about new construction and renovation projects in the district.
The committee is scheduled to meet on May 27.
