Welcome to Forest Hills!

Welcome to Forest Hills Elementary School! As a part of Florence City Schools, we take great pride in offering an educational experience second to none. At the heart of this pride is a pledge to offer your child tomorrow...today. Our commitment to providing a high-quality education to prepare your child for his/her future is what sets Forest Hills and Florence City Schools apart from others. We are honored to have you and your family as part of our school community.

As you enter our school, you will see the FCS Instructional Roadmap posted throughout our building. The roadmap details our focus for this school year. Our mission for Florence City Schools is: “To empower students to explore, create, challenge, innovate and lead.” Giving your child the foundational skills he/she needs in reading and math is our main focus while your child is at Forest Hills. We emphasize critical thinking and hands-on learning through our STEM Labs and Outdoor Classroom. We offer well-balanced enrichment opportunities through weekly art, music, library, guidance counseling, STEM, & Tech Time.

Not only do we focus on academics at Forest Hills, but we also focus on the “heart” of each child. We do this by building character within our students through teaching virtues such as wisdom, self-control, justice, fortitude, love, positive attitude, hard work, integrity, gratitude, and humility. We also focus on building character within our students by modeling positive community relationships, service learning, and focusing on the greater good of our school. Throughout the year, your child will learn our Forest Hills Commitment: I will be respectful, responsible, and safe to make the world a better place!

We realize the importance of parents’ involvement in education. We want to work with you in offering the best education possible for your child and encourage your interest and participation. You are the key to your child’s success in school and in life! Please be sure to join our PTO and keep in close contact with PTO for ways you can become more involved.

Please do not hesitate to stop by, call, or email me if I may be of assistance to you or your child during the school year. I am committed to working with families daily to ensure we provide an environment conducive to educating your child.

With all of us working together, the learning experiences at Forest Hills Elementary will be memorable for a lifetime. We look forward to serving you and your child throughout the coming year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fowler, Principal

What is the "summer slide?"

Forest Hills Families,

You may have heard of the "summer slide" before. Summer can be a time of great fun, relaxation, and adventure for students, but it can also be a time that students regress academically if their brains do not engage in stimulating activities. To help prevent the summer slide, I have listed some free and wonderful learning opportunities below.

As always, please remember that the best activity you can do with or for your child is read together daily for at least 20 minutes!

I hope that all of our families, students, teachers, and staff have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fowler, Principal

Alabama's Summer Learning Challenge

For Alabama's students, the months away from school can result in a large loss of knowledge in reading, math, science and other core subject matter. The Alabama Summer Learning Challenge raises awareness of the summer loss epidemic, shares research on the importance of personalized activities and provides access to a variety of free resources to targeted summer learning.
